The Centaurus, a developmental project under construction in blue area Islamabad. A project of Pak Gulf Construction, acquiring about 300,000 Sq ft of land. Atkins designs the complex.
This $350 million complex is planned to have a seven star hotel, along with two twenty one- story residential buildings. A twenty five- story corporate office and a five- story shopping mall.
It is believed that this Centaurus will be a representative sign for Pakistan, just as statue of liberty for U.S. It is an appreciable step indeed towards establishing a rapport of Pakistan in the world, but still the solution is temporary.
We have adopted the insight behind “Statue of Liberty” but never thought about adopting the “American dream.” What was that American dream which was forwarded by Martin Luther King Jr. [click to continue...]

Pakistanis in Denmark form the fifth-largest community of migrants and descendants from a non-Western country, The earliest Pakistani migrants came to Denmark in the 1960s and 1970s as migrant workers. That’s when the Danish Government opened doors for immigrants and termed them as guest workers.
Though the Danish government restricted labor migration in 1973, the Pakistani community continued to grow, largely through family reunification and transnational marriages. The spouses in these transnational marriages came largely from Pakistan, but roughly 3,000 were drawn from among the community of British Pakistanis as well. [click to continue...]

Being a resident of the twin cities of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, few days back my eyes caught a strange advertisement on the back of a local taxi. Here is what it said “Search on Google - Taxi Driver Asif Hussain Shah“. My initial reaction was a bit of indifference. However, later on when i was in front of my laptop, the thought again struck me and i decided to give it try to find out the real story behind this Taxi Driver Asif Hussain Shah
To my surprise, a simple search on Google came up with a alot of relevant results! Even there are YouTube videos and pictures of the said taxi driver. My first obvious response was one of very happiness that even people at the grass root level are now realizing the true potential of internet an how it can impact their lives. The fact that it made me further happy is because he is a type of Pakistani person, who will be the key [click to continue...]

U.S. billionaire Bill Gates is no longer the world’s richest man. That title now belongs to Mexico’s telecom titan Carlos Slim Helu, according to Forbes magazine’s annual list of the world’s richest people.
As per the list Pakistan’s Mian Mohammad Mansha is ranked at 937 with a net worth of $1 billion (USD) and is the only Pakistani in the world Billionair list. (One of the reasons being not many Pakistanis declare thier asset - case in point our President reportedly is one of the richest men in Pakistan with a networth of $1.8 billion )
Carlos Slim added $18.5 billion (USD) to his fortune last year and has a net worth of $53.5 billion (USD), according to the list. This is the first time since 1994 that a person from outside the United States has held the title of “world’s richest person. “Carlos Slim is very dominant in the Mexican economy. He foresaw the rise of communications, so cell phones he embraced, but he’s also into more nitty gritty businesses like cement, and he’s put together quite an empire,” says Steve Forbes, the magazine’s editor-in-chief.
Here is the top 20 from that list; [click to continue...]

UNDP statistics released the ‘2010 Asia-Pacific Human Development Report: Power Voice and Rights: A Turning Point for Gender Equality in Asia and the Pacific Asia’. According to this report Pakistan’s Human Development Index (HDI) showed a slight improvement of 1.28% and reached 0.572. However my dear country Pakistan is still ranked at 141 out of 182 countries. So what does HDI reflects ?
The HDI provides a composite measure of three dimensions of human development that includes living a long and healthy life (measured by life expectancy), being educated (measured by adult literacy and gross enrolment in education) and having a decent standard of life (measured by purchasing power parity and income). Wiki defines HDI as
The Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite statistic used as an index to rank countries by level of “human development” and separate developed (high development), developing (middle development), and underdeveloped (low development) countries. The statistic is composed from statistics for Life Expectancy, Education, and GDP collected at the national level.
Here are some key findings of the report (Source : The News Pakistan); [click to continue...]

An industrial park is an area zoned and planned for the purpose of industrial development. Living in UK, I have come across many such Industrial Parks in almost all the cities. The major ones are in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Also one of the biggest and famous ones is in Dubai known as Jebel Ali Industrial Area. Pakistan never had such Industrial zones , the most nearest being in Faisalabad city (textile). So it was a matter of time some thing like this started happening in Pakistan.
National Industrial Parks Development and Management Company (NIP) Zubair Habib hoped that the project, called the Karachi Creek Industrial Park (KCIP), would create significant job opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled workers and contribute to the national GDP growth
So what benefits do such projects bring? here are a few; [click to continue...]

Pro-Pakistan blog always try to highlight the positive things about our country but there are times when you come across such things where it becomes difficult to remain quiet on things even if it goes against the reputation of few of the most well known Pakistani’s. One such incident was just brought to my attention by one of our friend and a fan of our site who has been working for Acid Victims of Pakistan.
The story is about the famous entrepreneurial lady of Pakistan and a very much known figure to beauty conscious ladies of our times…..Yes you guess it right! Miss Masarrat Misbah, the proud owner of Diplex chain in Pakistan and abroad. Masarrat Misbah is not only the proud owner of Diplex but she is also running a Smile Again Foundation for the Acid Burn victims of our society. She won a lot of applause from people from all walks of life both in Pakistan and abroad. [click to continue...]

Today when i opened up web edition of Dawn newspaper, i came across the story of Pakistani delegation comprising of Senators and MP’s who refused to go through the full body scanning at US airport and hence decided to cancel their official trip and reach back to Pakistan. The Americans try their level best to convince the delegation to accept the new reality, however, the delegation turned down all the requests. Dawn newspaper even report that American cited the fact that their own Generals and Congressman go through it and get themselves strip checked so it is a good enough reason for the Americans to make it compulsory for the whole world to follow suit. I wonder if tomorrow some General or Congressman turned out to be a gay, will that also become a benchmark for us to consider it a good enough reason to follow suit.
Anyways, Dawn did its level best to present a soft image of Americans, as it has been doing lately. According to Dawn:
While the State Department issued no statement on the incident, official sources claimed that the lawmakers had signed a document in Islamabad which explicitly said that they would have to go through the normal procedure, which would include body-scan, and that there would be no exceptions.
