by MJK on March 11, 2010

Being a resident of the twin cities of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, few days back my eyes caught a strange advertisement on the back of a local taxi. Here is what it said “Search on Google - Taxi Driver Asif Hussain Shah“.  My initial reaction was a  bit of indifference. However, later on when i was in front of my laptop, the thought again struck me and i decided to give it try to find out the real story behind this Taxi Driver Asif Hussain Shah

To my surprise, a simple search on Google came up with a alot of relevant results! Even there are YouTube videos and pictures of the said taxi driver. Pakistan vs India: Live Streaming Hockey Worldcup

by Owais Ehsan on February 28, 2010

Hockey is the national sport of Pakistan. Over the years popularity of this once thriving sport is going sharply down, mainly due to the poor performance of Asian teams. However this is a new begining. The old foes, once the masters of the game, will clash on the opening day in a marquee match that organisers claim had been sold out at the 19,000-seater Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. Rest assured all the glamour of the 70s and 80s will be coming back when the old rivals face each other in an epic opening match. Never a hockey match between India and Pakistan has attracted such hype as this time. So lets hope its a great spectacle.

Rehan Butt the Pakistani stalwart has the following to say on this crucial opening match of the world cup;

The match against India will be indeed very important. India are a good side but we are ready for it. The 1-1 draw against Canada is not important as we didn’t play a full-strength side. I had injured my shoulder during a practice session before the match, while Akhtar (Ali) was also hit by ball. So team management tried different combinations as it didn’t want to put too much strain on us before the India match.

We at Pro-Pakistan , will bring all the Pakistan matches live here. Pakistan’s first match will be followed by a match against Spain on March 2. The greenshirts then play England on March 4, South Africa on March 6 and their last group match against Australia on March 8. So do visit us on match day and we will ensure all the Pakistani matches are shown here.

How do We Save a Generation of Displaced People?

by Huneeya Mazari on February 22, 2010

Loagh.. that was what I learnt. One of the first few words, In Balochi language it means home . In Urdu and Hindi we call it Ghar. Having a home is different from a house for two reasons. A home is supposed to embody love and dreams and a secure feeling of entrenchment which nobody can steal from you. That is what I believe it’s supposed to be like. This is the basic most pivotal need in Maslows hierarchy that we used to study in marketing and human resources. This is what some people work for all their lives and very few are lucky enough to achieve this. Without a secure place to fall back on and recognize as your own it is very difficult to have your roots firmly planted in the ground. [click to continue...]

Karachi Champions League (KCL) : Latif Launches Mega Cricket Tournament

by Owais Ehsan on February 3, 2010

With Pakistan Cricket going through endless humiliations, starting from the Poor form of the team, Ipl Snub, Afridi’s antics at Perth - there is at least some positive News coming out. Rashid Latif & Karachi City Government have join hands to launch the most lucrative club tournament in Pakistan’s History. Latif has long been thinking of launching a city-based Twenty20 league but finally decided it was time to act when Pakistan’s leading cricketers were snubbed at an Indian Premier League (IPL) player auction in Mumbai last month.

The Karachi Champions League, a Twenty20 league, for the leading clubs of the city will begin next week with Rs 10 million (around USD 117,200) as the top prize for the winners. The tournament, a brainchild of Latif and the Rashid Latif Cricket Academy (RLCA) will feature a number of Karachi-based international players, as well as a host of domestic cricketers. Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Khalid Latif, Fawad Alam, Khurram Manzoor and Sarfraz Ahmed, among others, will be playing.

“It was an old idea of mine, one that I had been working on. I am a big follower of English football and I love the history of clubs over there, like Chelsea and Fulham. We have so many old clubs in Karachi and we need to revive that club culture once again here.” [click to continue...]

Pro-Pakistan earlier covered the IPL episode in which Indian RAW used its underworld contacts to lobby for keeping out the Pakistan players. Since then we have heard the Indian media sharing the facts with everyone. Even the Indian selectors shared the undue pressure put on them for not biding for Pakistani players. Live Streaming: Pakistan vs Australia 2nd ODI

by Mansoor Ehsan on January 23, 2010

[CRICKET] Australia is 1 up in a five match series against Pakistan. First match was all about Cameron whose century ensured it is all success at the end. Pakistan did well but the killer punch is still missing. Yousuf, Younus and Malik all need to be tidy and agile so middle order does not crumble in remaining matches. Mind you it was Afridi’s effort which took them past 250. Rana can be dropped in favor of Umar Gul as Rana was expensive in last game.

Boom Boom was all reverse in the previous match. He was super with the bat but poor with the ball - that is usually not a usual business in a typical day. Here is what cricinfo says about him in a preview article for 2nd ODI: [click to continue...]

Live Streaming: Pakistan vs Australia 1st ODI - Pakistan tour of Australia 2010

by Mansoor Ehsan on January 21, 2010

[CRICKET] After a 3-0 defeat in test matches, team Pakistan is expecting ’some thing’ in upcoming ODIs after they received reinforcement in the form of Boom Boom Afridi and Younis Khan. It is a common feel here (in Pakistan) that we will give them tough time in ODIs. But i think it is pre-mature to say any thing about the ‘bubbly’ team. In recent past engagements, Pakistan fought well in UAE though they lost the series with 3-2. Pakistan also put a big heart at Champions Trophy when they almost grabbed victory. We all have been putting up these statements time and again that …yeah, we came close and gave tough time but the question is, is it enough that we came closer?? Why don’t we WIN altogether! Let’s hope for the best for ODIs. [click to continue...]
