Electricity Theft In Nawaz Sharif Rally

by Owais Ehsan on March 2, 2010

Just when we thought that the Politicians and political parties can’t get any more dishonorable and shameless, another incident happened live on Pakistani channels. Yes Folks PML (N)  Rally was powered by illegal electricity connection. Isnt it funny! how the bearers of the poor are caught red handed trying to be too smart.

According to the sources, Nawaz Sharif addressed party workers on Grand Trunk Road near University of Engineering and Technology. While Nawaz made a case for his own leadership in overcoming the problems of the common man, sources said the electricity provided to the PML-N meeting had been “stolen from WAPDA’s main line”.

Pictures on Geo tv clearly showed hooks were used to steal power from the main electricity lines. PML (N) at the time was doing a campagin for the upcoming NA -123 by-elections. The stolen electricity was used to power flood lights and speakers for the rally. Knowing the sensitivity of the issue and the fact that they were caught red handed , PML hastily arranged a press conferernce to clear the issue out. [click to continue...]

The Turmoil Continues: Current Situation of Pakistan

by Usman Zahid on February 16, 2010

The current political system is in complete turmoil. Political parties are yet again heading towards a dead end and a complete failure. President is worried about selecting his judges, PM is defending president, friendly opposition is not so friendly, judiciary is busy doing strikes, media is getting its hands full, Americans are increasing their presence in Pakistan and the nation is watching left to right like spectators in a tennis match. The sad part is that all the parties have forgotten the nation, masses and people! [click to continue...]

Wo wada hi kya jo wafa ho gia-A Government made for breaking promises!

by Usman Zahid on January 12, 2010

Raja Pervez Ashraf, minister for Power, announced that electric load shedding will be abolished from this country by 31st December, 2009. He did not say that once, but on many occasions. He categorically said that there will be no electric load shedding in Pakistan after 31st December, 2009. But guess what, the country took a nose dive in electric crisis on 31st December, 2009. Well shamelessly the minister holds his portfolio and smirks at the dumb founded nation.

The culture to resign after failing to fulfill a certain promise by the politicians in this country never flourished, which shows the greed and love for power of these politicians. Had these politicians any love, respect and care for the people, they would had resigned on their failures. I mean ideally speaking the first and foremost priority of any minister is to serve the nation and the country and not to hold on to power for 5 years! But perhaps that is ideally!

PPP has a recent history of breaking the promises. Whether, it was done to the nation for reinstating the judges or eliminating the 17th amendment or eradicating the electric crisis. When the top leadership fails to deliver then how can you expect the government to work under a command and in harmony?

PPP’s ultimate promise was food, clothes and shelter for everyone but guess what sugar crisis is at its peak, cotton yarn crisis is hitting great heights and housing well they are too scared to touch that property-dealer mafia! [click to continue...]

Zinda Hay Bibi! Zinda Hay?

by Usman Zahid on December 29, 2009

Benazir BhuttoTwo days after Benazir’s second death anniversary; and Pakistan People’s Party being in power for almost two years; the assassins of Benazir are living, ‘happily ever after’. I remember the chaos on the day when Benazir was assassinated; I did not even know that if I will be able to reach home safely; but after two years, this nation has fully realized that what a loss it was! May the loss seem bigger now that we have seen PPP without her leadership and especially since her death has left us to deal with Mr. Asif Zardari.

The country is being looked after bureaucracy right now and there seems no sign of governance in the country; its chaos and haphazard decisions, with no vision is the ultimate policy of this government. Zulfiqar Mirza threatened to break the country at the time of BB’s death; well Mr. Mirza I am sure that people of Sind are neither brainless nor drunk cowards like you; neither do they love power as much as you and nor do they behave like a villain. I don’t understand that why out of nowhere such comments and statements are being made by these good for nothing politicians; do they only see their self-interests? Do they not realize that such statements are going to further degrade the country’s image? Is it all what they can think about? And whether, these statements are only being made, to save one man, sitting in presidency.

Pakistan People’s Party has been in power for almost two years now, and they have failed to find the assassins of BB; and I question why? The very simple reason I see here is that PPP is so much in love with power that they forgot to inquire about the assassins, the party is so much occupied in yelling about the conspiracies against them; the party is too busy in corruption and not to forget that Mr. Zardari is too busy buying land in Islamabad. Plus one thing that a lot of people have said after BB’s death is that why would the person probe, if he is the biggest gainer of BB’s death! [click to continue...]

NRO Gets a Slap on the Face in Pakistan!

by Usman Zahid on December 18, 2009

On the cold eve of 16th December, 2009; supreme courts large bench consisting of 17 members out rightly rejected the National Reconciliation Order (NRO) issued on 5th October, 2007 by then Dictator Pervez Musharraf. The decision did not surprise many, including the incumbent government, who was also a party to the case. A lot has been said and read about the NRO beneficiaries and the reason for NRO but this decision officially puts off NRO and restarts the long list of cases that were hanging in air.

Strange things were said in the court during the proceedings and stranger things were heard. A statement from government’s council, “GHQ and CIA want to derail the democratic set-up” then, hiding the details of assets in United Kingdom and Spain. According to an estimate 70% of the case proceedings were on Swiss -Cases; which showed the seriousness of the allegations that were brushes aside using a duster termed as NRO. Growing American influence

by Usman Zahid on December 14, 2009

In recent one week more than two incidents have been reported in which unidentified American vehicles have been stopped and probed and the result has not been fruitful for Pakistan. Cars with fake number plates, tinted mirrors carrying illegal weapons have been stopped at more than two places in Lahore and in Islamabad but these incidents have not come to be stopped; in fact have gained momentum which should ring alarming bells for the security agencies, our leaders and especially for our nation.

I wish to try this in America some day but I am scared that I will end up in Guantanamo; the hypocrisy and double standards continue to prolong and cast shadows on the future of this nation. Where are the diplomatic rules and decorum?

This means that any Pakistani cannot be stopped having a tinted car, fake number plate and illegal weapons. The scary part is that American inside the car told the police constable that, “Pakistani laws are not binding on us!” then I wonder which laws are binding on them and if the American national is aware that he is in Pakistan and not in any American state and I am sure that there is no such rule in any American state where you can move in a car with fake registration number plate.

The biggest failure of this government has been its liaison with U.S; as it has become a known fact that the Pakistani do not like to see their government getting too close with Americans but somehow the other our leaders interpret this the other way around; which by the way takes a lot off shame to do so for our leaders; and to make such pro-American policies.

An incident in Lahore was reported in which two American diplomat cars were stopped at military check posts and they failed to give access of the car for checking purposes; similarly in another incident an American vehicle carrying Islamabad’s registration number plate also refused to give access. Pervez Musharraf – Fan Page at Facebook

by Usman Zahid on December 10, 2009

Recently made fan page of Pervez Musharraf on Facebook, has a whooping 50,000 fans that seem to support him and most of them include the younger or middle-aged generation; as compared to the page ‘We hate Pervez Musharrf’ which only has 993 members. Such a huge difference is an eye-wakening for many.

In the info section the Personal information has been summed like this,

I have had the good fortune and privilege to lead my country and serve the people of Pakistan for almost nine years. Since my retirement as President of Pakistan in August 2008, I have been keeping myself busy with a global lecture series. I have found this to be a stimulating experience as I get an opportunity to share my thoughts with audiences of different nationalities having diverse backgrounds. During these lectures, I allocate half the time or more for frank question and answer sessions, which afford me an opportunity to learn about the perspectives of my audience.

Besides the lectures, I find time to meet well wishers and friends. After many years of a regimented daily routine, I am able to spend quality time with my family. I also find time to play Golf, Tennis and Bridge.”

Whereas in the personal interests goes like,

FAVORITE JOURNALS: Economist, Newsweek, Time, India Today.

FAVORITE QUOTATIONS:
I have a favorite blend of famous quotations and my own thoughts relating to decision-making. Firstly, Napoleon’s strategic decision making philosophy, that every decision is “two-thirds analysis, and one-third leap in the dark.” I feel trying to expand the two-thirds analysis leads to “paralysis through analysis” (Nixon’s quote), and expanding the one-third leap in the dark leads to recklessness, endangering oneself and others. Striking the right balance is the true art of decision making.

“Few individuals significantly alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state. Mohammad Ali Jinnah did all three.” - Historian Stanley Wolpert

FAVORITE FOODS:
The entire spectrum of Pakistani cuisine. I have a special liking for Chinese soups, Turkish dishes and on casual occasions a bite of Burger with a helping of french fries and green salads
.

FAVORITE CARD GAME: Bridge.

FAVORITE SPORTS (TO PLAY): Tennis, Golf.

FAVORITE SPORTS (TO WATCH): Cricket, Tennis.

FAVORITE MUSICIAN (MUSIC): Ghazals in general and pre-partition film songs, Noor Jehan, Mehdi Hasan, Saigol, Mukesh.

FAVORITE MOVIES:
Westerns (Many), The Three Musketeers, World War II films (Many), Historical Epics (Ben Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, Spartacus, Gladiator, The Last Samurai); Current Day Thrillers (Many).

FAVORITE TELEVISION SHOWS: I have not watched a television series in a very long time.”

The page is almost updated daily with comments on the current happenings in Pakistan and updates on the personal life to a certain extent. Most of the page has political material like, ‘The Afghan Pakistan Solution’ or the interview with channels or notes about the lectures.

The comments to the wall posts on the page are almost positive for Pervez Musharraf like, “We miss you, or we are with you” so on and so forth. [click to continue...]

NRO, Independent Judiciary and The Nation

by Usman Zahid on November 24, 2009

The failure of government on National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and publishing the list of beneficiaries of NRO; a new Pandora box has been opened in the Pakistani politics. Many observers and analysts are of the view that the incumbent ministers having their names in the NRO list should resign from their respective offices; whereas these public office holders believe that unless and until they are proven guilty; they should and will not resign from their portfolios.

The debate can be a never ending and the points put forth can go from logical to illogical; but perhaps these leaders and politicians of ours, do not realize that they are not only playing with this country but also with this nation that is going through one of the most torrid times of their lives. The list of the NRO beneficiaries has already been mentioned in one of our previous posts; and it surely includes one of the most important office holders of our country.

The funny part here is that one institute of the government will [click to continue...]
