by Suraiya Kasim on March 11, 2010

Pakistanis in Denmark form the fifth-largest community of migrants and descendants from a non-Western country, The earliest Pakistani migrants came to Denmark in the 1960s and 1970s as migrant workers. That’s when the Danish Government opened doors for immigrants and termed them as guest workers.

Though the Danish government restricted labor migration in 1973, the Pakistani community continued to grow, largely through family reunification and transnational marriages. The spouses in these transnational marriages came largely from Pakistan, but roughly 3,000 were drawn from among the community of British Pakistanis as well. [click to continue...]

by Teleco Analyst on March 11, 2010

U.S. billionaire Bill Gates is no longer the world’s richest man. That title now belongs to Mexico’s telecom titan Carlos Slim Helu, according to Forbes magazine’s annual list of the world’s richest people.

As per the list Pakistan’s Mian Mohammad Mansha is ranked at 937 with a net worth of $1 billion (USD) and is the only Pakistani in the world Billionair list. (One of the reasons being not many Pakistanis declare thier asset - case in point our President reportedly is one of the richest men in Pakistan with a networth of $1.8 billion )

Carlos Slim added $18.5 billion (USD) to his fortune last year and has a net worth of $53.5 billion (USD), according to the list. This is the first time since 1994 that a person from outside the United States has held the title of “world’s richest person. “Carlos Slim is very dominant in the Mexican economy. He foresaw the rise of communications, so cell phones he embraced, but he’s also into more nitty gritty businesses like cement, and he’s put together quite an empire,” says Steve Forbes, the magazine’s editor-in-chief.

Here is the top 20 from that list; [click to continue...]

Oxford University Student Opinion On Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

by Crackerpotato on February 21, 2010

This is a clip taken from the program by Talat from Aaj Tv and one student of Oxford University raises some serious questions about the Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party. The guy has stood to the occassion to share the way our supposedly future leader is behaving in Oxford. Do not forget to miss th last part where a PPP crony try to defend Bilawal Bhutto Zardari by mocking the 170 million Pakistani’s. The guy has the guts to say that the students sitting on that platform are not going to decide the future leader of Pakistan rather its the general masses, whom they can fool around all the time, who are going to decide the future leader. I think its a national shame for all of us. Watch the Clip!

by Usman Zahid on February 4, 2010

The much awaited and as expected the decision on Dr.Aafia Sidqui was given by the 16 member Jury at New York. The jury found Dr. Aafia being guilty of seven charges; mainly revolving around the murder attempt of U.S servicemen. The decision was twenty-four hours delayed by the jury, for the reason best being known to them and between the preceding two members of the jury were also changed. During the case two (2) witnesses were brought to the court by Dr. Aafia’s lawyers and also a videotape and the jury was also told that the forensic tests proved that Dr. Aafia had no indulgence in the case and that the case was made on false ground.

The charges against Dr. Aafia were that she tried to kill U.S Marines and FBI inspectors in Afghanistan, during an investigation by using rifle M-4 of an American soldier. Al Jazeera Interview with Sirajuddin Haqqani

by Crackerpotato on January 22, 2010

Al Jazeera has obtained an exclusive interview with Sirajuddin Haqqani, a Taliban commander fighting US and Nato forces in Afghanistan.

US commanders have identified the Pakistan-based Haqqani network – which allegedly has ties with Pakistan’s ISI – as one of the biggest threats to US forces in Afghanistan. The network carries out attacks on foreign forces across the majority of eastern Afghanistan. The US has put a $5 million bounty on Sirajuddin Haqqani’s head. David Chater has the latest from Kabul. The Aj Jazeera guy rightly points out the fact that the whole Haqqani network is CIA trained. So the mess is created by CIA in the first place and now they want Pakistan to clear it for them.  [click to continue...]

Hakimullah Mehsud Killed in Drone Attack

by MJK on January 14, 2010

It is reported in Pakistani and international media that Baithullah Mehsud successor Hakimullah Mehsud has been killed in a drone attack in North Waziristan. The importance of this attack can be judged from the fact that Hakimullah Mehsud claimed responsibility for the attack on CIA Camp in Afghanistan. CIA has vowed to avenge the death of their colleagues in Afghanistan. I wonder if CIA suddenly found Hakimullah Mehsud location and targeted him with a drone attack or they already knew about him but refrain to target him in the past? In any case, Pakistan has been rid of an evil and hence we are better off in any case.

Hence 90’s Political Style Is Back In Fashion!

by Usman Zahid on December 21, 2009

After the Supreme Court’s decision on NRO the political canvas has changed the landscape as if hit by a massive earth quake. It seems that we have gone back to 90’s where all we heard was the government clash with other institutes or opposition or corruption or inflation. All this has seen to be revived after the NRO judgment; that came, the most surprising element were the recent comments given by Prime Minister to the media. It came as the most astonishing element of the recent regime when the most widely respected PM lashed out on media in defense of the most controversial President in the history of Pakistan.

According to many experts the current system is heading towards a major clash; i.e. Executive versus Judiciary. It seems that our politicians does not learn from past; and have not seen what happened with Musharraf government in the later stages when judiciary and executive clashed. It is ironic that how our ministers claim that we are in a state of war and look at our government’s priority; fighting against NRO; having more than eight hours long meetings over NRO and its defense; I wonder why there were no such deliberations over the electricity crisis or sugar crisis; perhaps because they were issues of masses and not of the top office holders. Arrest Warrants Issued against Rehman Malik

by MJK on December 18, 2009

Pro-Pakistan has given a detailed coverage to the NRO issue in its blog posts. The only reason for it was that we were totally against such draconian laws which discriminate between the common citizens and the elite. Thanks to the efforts of our countrymen, the law was abolished few days back.

Today, NAB court issued non bailable arrest warrant against our Interior Minister Rehman Malik and few other people people. All these people have been part of the current government while they were wanted in numerous cases that were quashed because of the NRO. Below is the story as it appear in Dawn News:

ISLAMABAD: A NAB court has issued the arrest warrant against Interior Minister Rehman Malik. arrants of arrests have been issued against 52 individuals, including the Sindh Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani, Usman Farooqui and Munawar Talpur, sources were quoted as saying by a private television channel. These warrants are non-bailable
