In the recent geopolitical front the development of friendship between Saudi Arab and India is being looked at very closely. Indians got an overwhelming welcome by the Saudi’s; the entire royal cabinet was present at the airport to welcome the Indian P.M; an honor previously enjoyed by China and France only. Such a start to a PM of country who was visiting after 28 years was certainly an eye-opener for Pakistanis. It is not an eye-opener because Indians are visiting but because an enemy is trying to take away an elder brother. I know there are no permanent friends or foes in foreign policy of a country but certain things are ground realities and that are hard to change.
The interesting aspect of the Indian visit to Saudi Arab includes the statement of the Saudi Foreign minister in which he stressed to the Pakistani politicians to unite against war on terror. At least we are not used to hear that from our elder brother! Especially when Saudi’s know the Usman-bin-Laden is Saudi menace and they could have influenced him better to stay out of Pakistan and hand himself over to U.S.
Even more surprising element of the trip is the address of Indian PM to Saudi Shura’a; and then followed by the visit to the educational institute and to conclude with the joint declaration. The funny part is that the joint declaration has a lot of stress on terrorism; which definitely shows the cold shoulder given by Saudi Arab to Pakistan; due helped by Indians.
Another important element of this tour is the missing of ‘Kashmir’ and non-mentioning of such an atrocity by Saudi Arab is certainly a shocking attitude. But why to blame Saudi Arab for all this; when our own foreign minister is focused on Kerry Lugar bill and when our own President termed Kashmir movement as terrorists!
Indians had a very hard stance on the talks between Pakistan and India should not involve any other country but themselves Indians want to involve Saudi Arab; whereas Pakistani’s always wanted to involve Americans.
According to Former ambassador Tahir Fatimi, when such a visit takes place, it is the duty of Pakistani foreign minister and his team to sensitize the host nation of its issue so that they can either snub, or dismiss or diplomatically handle such an issue.
The joint declaration between India and Saudi Arab also lays an emphasis on Iran’s nuclear deal; this certainly are not the words of both the countries; as we all know that India enjoys excellent relations with Iran but certainly here U.S has been successful in putting words in the mouth of two countries that are also the member of G-20.
It is time to ponder on our own foreign policy; because Indians have taken leap years lead from Pakistan on diplomatic fronts. Whether; it is the signing of the Civil-Nuclear deal with America or the Joint Declaration with long, old Pakistani friend Saudi Arab.
Pakistani foreign policy is yet a mono-country following i.e. sit in the steps of America; which totally has yielded no result. We lack relations with Russia, we are already abusing our terms with China, we have not cared about our relations with Saudi’s, we have ignored terms with Iran, we are trying to solve issues in Afghanistan but yet Indian influence is more in Afghanistan, we all know about Britain will do what Americans will tell them.
It is our bad luck that our leaders have been too busy in making money for them and have forgotten diplomatic fronts totally. We also have to remember that Pakistan’s conduct with Saudi Arab has been something like this;
1. Involve in political affairs
2. Beg for oil from Saudi Arab for differed payments
3. Take political asylums
4. Use them for guarantees
5. Involving them in domestic affairs
therefore if for once Saudi’s have shown us cold shoulder, then it is time that Pakistani foreign office should wake up and do something on this front but not in a manner that alarms everyone and shows Pakistani panic.
Saudi’s should be invited to Pakistan and for God’s sake no aid to be asked from them whether for ‘Friends of Democratic Pakistan’ or for on ‘War on terror’.
Pakistan should hold a summit of Saudi Arab and China to show to the world that the friendship and relation is still the same as it was before. The joint declaration should be issued which should include statements on Kashmir, business, man-power and defense. If we are not going to do so then we will solely be left on the American Feet.

Saudis have little respect for Pakistan because we are always beggars, begging them for oil, money, power plants, investment, employment; while giving little in return. india on the other hand is a hard-cash buyer of Saudi crude oil. and trust me, they are buying hell of a lot. and Saudi needs countries like this so that in case they (i.e. OPEC) stumble into problems with the US, they can still sustain economically by selling to biggies like India and China. So obviously you will see the whole cabinet receiving any Indian delegates and signing treaties (which are of adverse effect to Pakistan, i.e. extradition). It’s just like if you’re the boss of a multi million dollar company. Would you pay more attention to receive a large and powerful buyer of your product, or a poor street beggar who is incidentally related to you? You may probably just get your downliner to give the beggar some tips while you spend your time on the buyer. And that’s what the Saudis are doing. Face it. We have become BEGGARS in the eyes of everyone. Americans, Chinese, Arabs etc. We are openly going on begging for alms. So what’s the point of the pride of having a nuclear arsenal when we have to BEG for the basics of food and oil? Even North Korea doesn’t do that! Bottom line is: until we buck up, as long as we continue begging, we will be sidelined by everybody. In this condition, a powerful army doesn’t help much. And don’t be surprised if the next blow comes from China. At the end of the day China is supporting us only for their immediate interests of countering India, not because they have any affection for us. And if it’s in their future interest of fostering closer ties with India at the expense of Pakistan for their national goals, they would do it without a second thought.
In politics, inclinations change rapidly. Political leadership of any country should be at their toes all the times to address any sensitive issue which might hurt them in future. Pakistan is slowly loosing friends all around because of all the terrorism it has faced. We need to act and act fast before it’s too late.
@loko. True true to some extent. But there has been a lot of aid to Pakistan by the Saudis to promote the militancy within the country. The Saudis have a large role to play in the current situation of Pakistan. They have turned funded even the smallest madrassas in the urban regions but the question lies why do they hesitate in funding education and other growth sectors.
Saudi Arab advice to Pakistan should not be taken in a negative sense, as we do need to fight extremism from our country, however Saudi Arab should also ensure that it does fund religious seminaries that produce militants. One can understand the Saudi’s hesitation in investing in democratic reforms they however can play a vital role in educational reforms and rebuilding the schools destroyed by the militants
/* This is one of the comment I had written to a pak person over kashmir issue */
I just read your article. But I think you not aware what will actual situation of kashmir after removed from Indian side. Kashmir is peaceful because it is isolated from Pakistan. and the disturbance are done only due to policies done by pakistani people. Kashmiri wants peace and unity of there terrority not want adjunct to pakistan. some of the kashmiri people are against India but not in fevour with Pakisthan. Also Industry not grown in Indian Kashmir due harash condition done by you people.
I think there is no future of kashmir to adjunct with pakistan. Its better that pakistan should remove there troops from POK and given terrority to India. India will give full protection to Kashmiri people with there growth. Because pakistan has not able to fix his its own issues. and Independant kashmir is not able to make full nation like Bangladesh it is till poor nation.
I know Pakistan is one of the modern Islamic nation but it neglecting his potential due to this Kashmir issues. I am looking for bright futures for all India,Pakistan and Kashmiri people. Pakistan is size of Japan and all resources are available as Japan then its good thing for Pakistan for looking in bright future not for what happened in past
Saudia’s warm welcome to India is a thought provoking issue for Pakistan. After all INDIA being an enemy of our, trying to develop good relations with our elder brother……..something very fishy…….come on wake up LEADERS!!!!!!
@Amna Zaman – well, this is endorsed by our leaders actually if you don’t already know and the money flows largely from the private sector of Saudi Arabia (e.g. Charities), who derive funds from the government. And until we Pakistanis continue sucking up to the Arabs, we’ll be sidelined as their minions. (I got something to add, which is like it or not, Arabs always look at themselves as Superior Muslims compared to all the other Muslims in the world, e.g. African, Indonesian, Pakistani etc.). This won’t change very soon.
…and the bottom line is “Beggars can’t be Choosers”. It’s best instead of encouraging Saudi to “invest” in democracy or religious seminaries, to actually work on and earn money for ourselves. We are the only ones going around begging like this. And sometimes I wonder why India is always brought in when they are ages in front. It serves us no purpose.
hi, set ur own house in order boss. stop comparing with india.
