Now first read this and later i will voice my opinion on it. PAKISTANIS NOT ALLOWED (Letter written to the Editor at Dawn/The News)
The above letter is taken from the Facebook page of a group that appeal against this act of of humiliation against us on our own land inside our own capital whose very name is “ISLAMABAD (The City where Islam Lives and Prospers or The City of Muslims). The letter is supposedly written by Syed Salman Shah Few days back i was having a discussion with my brother and we reached a solid conclusion that the real irony of Pakistani’s is that they will never learn to fight for their rights! We will love to stand in long ques for Atta, Cheeni (Sugar) and Gas but we will never come out to stand for an hour infront of Parliament house to protest the illegal hoarding of such things. We will love to get slapped in public by our politicians but we will never stand up to fight for our rights. The most we can do is to take out our frustration here at Internet from the safety of our warm rooms sitting on a couch or lying in bed with our laptops on top of us. This is the irony! Internet is always a medium of communication but revolutions are never brought on the net! Real revolutions are brought when the people come out on the streets and brace the cold and hot weathers to fight for their right in a peaceful manner. Now the above mentioned facebook page protesting this injustice has 1900+ fans and they are mostly based in Islamabad. I wonder what will happen if those 1900 people come out for a peaceful protest outside this restaurant decided to stay there till the time their JUST demand of equal treatment is not fulfilled. Moreover, they should also raise up their voices against the illegal business of this hotel. I am sure just one day and this restaurant will be out of business since Foreigners will never go to the place which has security issues. I am not dictating any illegal steps here or in favor of harming anyone business but at the same time we can not let anyone disgrace our beloved Pakistani’s any where in the world and not to speak inside our own country Capital City! Pro-Pakistan joins this protest against this Stupid and unjust move by “At Home” Chinese Restaurnat and demand the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take a suo moto of this case and restore the rights of Pakistani’s inside their own land. Moroever, we also request all our readers to express their opinions here and to show their readiness to join us in a peaceful proteset against this move by the Chinese Restaurant in the capital city of Pakistan. Facebook Page Link Protesting the “At Home” Restaurant Update: I just received an update from Nida S Zaman, the person who launched the protest against the restaurant, that it has been temporarily closed down at its current premises. The landlord of the restaurant has ordered them to vacate the place. Sometimes, a silent protest is worth it. Thanks everyone for the support. Related Articles |
On January 5th 2010, Tuesday night a group of five of us; two ladies and their respective husbands along with another family friend decided to try out this Chinese restaurant called “At Home” located in Islamabad, F-8-1, Street 30, House 12-A. As we made our way to the gate, we could see a large number of cars parked outside this restaurant/house. The gate was firmly locked and a waiter walked out of the front door, glanced at us from behind the closed gate and said “No Pakistani’s allowed”. We were obviously taken aback and politely asked him to call the manager. He refused and said that it was his job not to let any Pakistani’s inside. We were shocked, embarrassed and naturally lost our temper. Meanwhile foreign customers were walking in and out of the restaurant as us Pakistani’s stood disgraced. Harsh words were exchanged between us and the waiter and we walked off the premises feeling humiliated as never before.

Did any of you ever notice that all good restaurants & hotels have a display at their entrance “Right of Admission Reserved”.
They do exercise this right, I have tested this theory of mine at couple of 5-star hotels of Lahore, believe me they are not polite as well. So for all purposes, the restaurant has the right to deny entry to anyone.
The legality of the said restaurant is indeed mind-boggling, this should be questioned & taken care of by the concerned authorities.
The point of not fighting for our rights is very well put, and I do agree, that all; including me are not bothered by the ever increasing burden on our pockets, souls & minds, we whine about it, but eventually we end up paying whatever the additional cost is.
Simply put, fuel is a necessity, so is Atta (Wheat), but why do we keep on paying for luxuries such as sugar? If for once we decide to bear the cost in terms of sacrificing the sweet tooth for a few days & lessen/stop the consumption, than at least one of the social evils might be defeated.
@Shahzad! The rights of entry are never reserved on the basis on the nationality and specially in the host country where such business resides.
well it is true that such restaurants do sell alcohol and other non-puritanical practices are observed. IF any one of you ever went to chinese restaurant in f-7 near cotton and cotton you would be suprised to c wats going inside. Also, they sell expensive alcohol :P
The fact of the matter is that a commerical enterprise is being run in a residential area of islamabad flouting all rules and regulations and the worst part about it is, they’re discriminating against the very people whose country they are operating in.
What nerve, I say. A protest should be organized against such sort of discrimination - this is our country. We cowered down in front of the americans, now the chinese… what next? Laws are meant for everyone… no matter what your race, religion or creed!
@Sleepless! Totally agree! We need to organize a peaceful protest rally against this discriminatory and illegal practices of “At Home” restaurant in Islamabad.
what the non sence working that chinese resturant doing.
We have to take action on that hotel.
what the right they have to prevent out Pakistani from entring that hotel.
I think guys we have more important issues like extremism and terrorism in Pakistan to debate and discuss on rather than issue like this. These will only divert our focus from the main issue that the militants are trying to conquer Pakistan so WAKE UP PEOPLE!!
Isnt customer discrimination the right of a business owner? As long as it doesnt deal with necessities it is not prohibited. the reason the sign may have been up was to prevent Pakistani people from drinking liquor, which is prohibited in Islam. But yet it’s not wrong for outlets to serve liquor if a valid license available, just like how it is in some hotels. btw this reminds me of Haagen Dazs barring Indians from entering their outlet in Delhi which was met be stiff protest and the proprietor changing his stand due to threats by Indian authorities.
On Saturday Night I went to the place for a nice Chinese food place and to my surprise the place has gone out of business. To put the record straight I am a Pakistani and was a regular visitor of the place as a matter of fact there were quite a few Pakistanis’ were welcomed there. Even one of the female members of the group who started this issue was also a regular visitor of this place.
Now there is another side of this story: According to my meetings with various friends and regular visitors of the place, few days before the incident a group of drunk Pakistani tried to create some problem the Chinese owner in-order to avoid the similar situation ordered her Pathan guard not never ever allow drunk Pakistanis’ inside, the poor illiterate Pathan misunderstood and stopped this unfortunate group from enjoying their drink and food at the restaurant. I wished this had never happened and we had not lost this place which in my opinion had the best genuine Chinese food in town. For Drinking we have lot of places in almost every sector of Islamabad but food I will miss.
@Sohail: What a stupid story - stop lying
If any Restaurant stops you from entering into there premises based on pure prejudice , you have a right to protest and launch complain using legitimate means. Now what will actually happen afterward is another story, it’s same in rest of the world where many clubs simply deny entry to black people due to there race. Its just a way it is. The good/bad news is that in Pakistan , mighty rules BIG time , so you can get away with almost any thing…
