Al Jazeera has obtained an exclusive interview with Sirajuddin Haqqani, a Taliban commander fighting US and Nato forces in Afghanistan. US commanders have identified the Pakistan-based Haqqani network – which allegedly has ties with Pakistan’s ISI – as one of the biggest threats to US forces in Afghanistan. The network carries out attacks on foreign forces across the majority of eastern Afghanistan. The US has put a $5 million bounty on Sirajuddin Haqqani’s head. David Chater has the latest from Kabul. The Aj Jazeera guy rightly points out the fact that the whole Haqqani network is CIA trained. So the mess is created by CIA in the first place and now they want Pakistan to clear it for them. The debate is not on who created the mess but it is rather that we have to take ownership of it and we must fight against the extremism that is present in Pakistan. We cannot keep arguing on this fact and remain silent. We must take a stand on extremist elements in our country and neutralize them. I hate the part where he says ‘they will dictate’. Pakistan will surely not let that happen.
What is the benefit of dwelling upon the wrongs of our past? These forces need to be encountered jointly for if we give them a free hand they will create more havoc and chaos.
I would agree with ammar’s comment on this. The haqani network in Pakistan must be defeated. Militancy in Pakistan is bringing the nation down to its knees. Last year was awful financial and infinite lives were taken in the name of religion. We condemn this.
