On 19th January, 2010; Indian Premier League ridiculed the Pakistanis over the players bidding. In the most astonishing way the players of the Pakistani cricket team and also the reigning champions of T20 world cup were put down by the franchisees of the IPL. The Pakistani players put forth for the bidding of Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Gul, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal and Muhammad Amir mainly; but the shocking part of the bidding is that none of the franchisees even made an offer for the Pakistani players. Remember that during the Cricket Awards of the Year 2008′09 not a single Pakistani was awarded. Out of 8 teams in IPL none of them made a single bid. This shows that it was the collective decision of the entire people involved in IPL. Though the Chairman and Commissioner of IPL Lalit Modi declined any such allegation and tried to put all the blame on the Pakistani government and on the relations between both the countries. Mr. Modi if knew these factors could play an important and pivotal role in the bid then he should have been sensitive enough to the Pakistani nation and would had informed the governing board of Pakistan cricket. Not to forget here is that Sohail Tanvir was bowler of year 2008 for IPL and helped his team Rajasthan Royals win the first IPL ever. Sad part is that Jamshed Dasti MNA and member of Sport Committee has blamed Ijaz Butt Chariman of Pakistan Cricket Board; and Jamshed Dasti happens to be the same MNA who blamed Pakistani cricket team of match fixing in ICC Champions trophy 2009. I guess Mr. Jamshed Dasti happens to be more close to the Indian Cricket and that is why he seems to have more information than the media and the sports intelligentsia of Pakistan. It would be rather better that Jamshed Dasti focuses on his party’s performance in the country and handling the national matters; rather than focusing on cricketing issues. Enough said for IPL and the way it behaved on the Pakistani players; but I don’t understand; why so much of an issue is being made of a league and that also being hosted by India - arch rivals of Pakistan. I have mentioned this in my previous articles as well that India and Indians at no cost would like to see Pakistanis flourish. Why do we every time wait for Indians to slap us and then react? Why do we have a reactive policy rather than a pro-active policy? This is what happens to countries that deviate from the fundamentals of their foreign policy and follow a foreign policy made by a third party and prefer a back door diplomacy. When we can let Tariq Aziz handle all our affairs with India; when we call the freedom movement as Non-state Terrorist; when we import bollywood in our country and when we allow Indians to block our water; then I wonder why we did the nuclear tests at the first place. When our news bulletins especially headlines are filled with bollywood and Indian news and our children talk about Tulsi; then why to complain when they slap us? I wonder why we always unite against corrupt politicians but we cannot unite against India; especially in banning their products and media from taking over our mindsets; and the reason I see is that media has played a very dubious role. No one amongst us has come out and opposed India the way they do; the way portray our negative image. Who is responsible for the Pakistani rotting in the Indian jails for no reason? Why did we set free Kashmir Singh? Why did we argue over the death sentence to the Indian? Why are we waiting for India to start the peace process when they do not want to? Who is responsible for the family of the soldier who was shot by the unprovoked firing by the Indians across the Line of Control? Why should we allow Geo Super to telecast IPL now? We need to have faith and believe in ourselves; in our values; in our heroes; in our talent and in our country. We need to stand up this time and make sure that Indians know that we are least interested in them! It is sad how cricketing matters have been turned into public humiliation for this country and if we let this matter go then we will be surrendering to Indians for our generations to come! Here is my take on this. Im sure Pakistanis are disappointed in fact humiliated ! while Indians call it a sound Business Decision as Pakistani Players in current circumstances are a RISKY ASSET in financial terms.
But the point is that the very same Businesses gave names to IPL that they are interested in these players. So why ignore when you have initially indicated to be interested ? did the relations between India and Pakistan really deterioted in past 45 days? NO - Hence i will call it a Conspiracy to malign Pakistan cricket and in the process Pakistan nation.
Being Indian, i am unhappy too.Sohail Tanveer was the winner of first IPL & abdul Razzaq could have been available for whole tournament.
The way IPL feanchiese shown no interest in Pak players is disappointing.
I am sure that many indians wanted to see Pak players in IPL.
Its just another incident of showing Indian “Khaslat” . We Pakistanis are used to ignoring their nature every time but its high time to gain some self respect and especially during times when India is getting hyper with US backing and cutting off whatever it can from its resources to Pakistan so why contribute to them? See how youngsters are getting furious on this action and I suggest all Pakistanis should join this group and show some self respect.

What ultimately happened at the IPL auction is truely disappointing. Not having talented players like Afridi in the IPL is a big miss. But I’m sure the Indian govt had nothing to do with the auctions. It is surprising to hear voices from Pak talking of severing sporting ties with india. In the first place IPL is no SPORT ! Its business - and business men /women running the IPL teams made business decisions. For sure it is there for all the see that the relations have not been going well in the first place.
This article talks about a soldier being killed by unprovoked firing from the Indian side. We get to hear the same too - so whats the fuss about ? Hundreds of people have been killed by terrorist attacks in India and the whole world ( including pakistanis ) know where these terrorists ( ok freedom fighters if you please ! ) are coming from.
Have we been able to fix that ? NO. So what are we getting exited about here ?
Would like Usman Zahid to know that we Indians love to see Pakistanis and Pakistan flourish. Thats the only way out for Pakistan. We will be happy to see the Pakistani establishment focus on achieving progress for Pakistan rather than getting into supporting direction less freedom fighters.
And lastly what is Usman pointing to when he says ‘ why did we ( pakistanis ) do the nuclear test’ !!! if what he means is what I’m thinking, i have no doubt in my mind that he is one with a completely scrambled mind.
Usman - get well soon dear.

My dear friend the point is that I am not the one living here in fool’s paradise and i do not want my nation to live in it too! The aggressive statements of Gen. Kapoor, the IPL drama, the Mumbai thriller, falling of Babri Mosque, going against the moral ethics and building dams and blocking Pakistan’s water!
Do i have to say more or it shows the complete scrambled mind of Indians working on one agenda to hurt Pakistan? And don’t forget to add to the above list the Indian radio stations working in North Waziristan; presence of RAW at Lahore and the way Indian media reacted to Mumbai thriller! And i think over Kashmir the U.N’s resolution is quite clear and where do we stand on Bangladesh issue, was their no India involved?
I guess you need to look in the backyard of your own country before judging anyone a scrambled mind because the matter of fact is that twisted words and actions start from India and will end in India!
what has babri masjid gotta do with this? many hindu temples and churches have been destroyed in pakistan too. imo we muslims cannot go around preaching too much about our minorities in other countries until we get our act straight on minorities in muslim countries. if you’re well read i believe i need not elaborate further.
on IPL it is not the indian govt in my opinion that ‘blocked’ pakistani players directly, but rather indian govt attitude of maligning pakistan in relation to the 26/11 attacks that has poisoned the indian peoples’ mind. as such the businessmen owners of IPL teams dont want to take chances with their hundreds of thousands of USD by bidding for pakistani players that they feel may garner negative publicity in a country which is increasingly getting anti pakistan. (IPL is all about money and publicity - that comes before player talent / skill. pakistani players were obviously not the best choice for the typical businessman in present conditions of pak-indo relations considering money and publicity were their main objectives. indian govt couldnt even give visa assurances. so which indian would invest in our players? would you pay for something which you were not sure you would get?). not to forget the hero shiv sena added salt to the wound.
IMO we should not be childish and whine at this and rather move along gracefully. its a private sporting event. there is little we can do. getting our cabinet ministers involved in this private event only potrays how childish we are. Had no English / Australian player been selected, do you think you will find their cabinet ministers whining away of conspiracy?
it is heartbreaking to hear that pakistani players is not in IPL3. It would be more enjoyable if they are also in IPL. because some of the teams became weak without them.
Dear Usman,
You are right - Pakistanis are humiliated. Let us start our own PPL . Let us invite all the best talent in the world by paying them millions of $s. Let us do the same things that the Indians did - invite them and then not pick them. Let us get organized - nobody will and can stop the PPL. GO PPL !!!!! When can we expect this - this year? next?
My friend -you have bigger problems. Please do your part in trying to fix them; getting all jingoistic and asking to nuke India will not serve anything. Having a terrorist and unstable state as a neighbor to a stable booming economy and a democracy is a drain - we need you guys to function “right” so that we can take care of our own problems - and believe me - IPL this year will be a flop. 94 matches? It is insane !!!! No one will watch it; BCCI is the Board of Currency Counting Idiots who don’t know and don’t care about the ABCs of cricket
Personally I am excited to see umar akmal/mohamed amer - awesome prospects for Pakistan cricket. Here’s to your prosperity and ours.
Luv
Swamiji
