The poor country of Pakistan where majority of the people are living below the poverty line and where parents kill their children before committing suicide because they can not afford food to feed them, PPP Government is all set to build a Benazir Bhutto monument at the cost of Rs 1 Billion. The PPP was founded with the slogan of “Roti, Kapra and Makan”. The founding slogan has lost its meaning as the party has failed to achieve this goal and instead wasting the national wealth on glorifying its late chairperson Benazir Bhutto.
ISLAMABAD, Dec 26: The government is all set to build a Rs1 billion monument at the site in Rawalpindi city where former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a gun-and-suicide bomb attack on December 27, 2007; sources told Dawn.
Though the monument would be built in the historical Liaquat Bagh, which falls under the administrative control of the Punjab government, the federal government would provide the fund for the project.
Leader of the house in the Senate Nayyer Bukhari is heading a steering committee which has been given the responsibility to oversee the project. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is expec
ted to perform the ground breaking at the site on Sunday, marking the second death anniversary of Ms Bhutto.
Faisal Warsi, who deals with public relations of Senator Bukhari, said a Karachi-based architecture company, ARCO, had been tasked to design the monument.
In response to a question, Mr Warsi explained that construction of the project would cost around Rs1 billion and the federal government would be bearing all the expenses.
Explaining the main features of the monument, he said its entrance would be called Bab-i-Benazir and would have a tower in the centre surrounded by a water pool. A special wall called Dewar-i-Awam would be built with Daughter of the East inscribed on it.
I wonder on what basis our government will justify this cost? Is this how they think they can glorify the personality of late Benazir Bhutto? Is this how an Islamic State is suppose to act? The irony of the matter is that our people will remain silent spectators while our leaders can waste our hard earned money on glorifying themselves and their family members at the expense of our poor Pakistani citizens.

OMG; this PPP will go upto what extent to burn taxpayers money… this is not acceptable; i am sure with 1 billion rupees they can build lots of hospital; clean water projects but WTH they have to do with poor people…it seems as if BB and Zulfiqar Bhutto were only leaders this country has produced….
I cannot believe this, how long these bastards will continue to plunder national wealth to glorify their leaders. I don’t care if Zardari (Mr. 100%) dole out one billions or one trillion rupees from his personal coffers (of course by selling Surrey palace and not the money he looted from public fund) …..down with PPP and bastard Zardari
The only sympathy I have is the way BB died. Otherwise Bhutto & Zardari are the most corrupt governing family in the world. Liaquat Bagh is a memorial to a real leader. Why to destroy the park? If Zardari wants to build her memorial, he should buy land and build from stolen dollars stashed away in foreign countries. the students should start a campaign on twitter against this wastage. I like Mr. Ehsan’s idea much better.
Asalam u alaikum, Dear ahsan,Babag and amir sahib 100% agree with you.
I sware that ppp will moving towords destroying our nation Pakistan. But they have to be aware that we are the nation when we come out then no bustrds will stay here. Inshallah.
so shame zardari so shame. shame on all battu family, if they want to build it so make it own its own Dollors through which you kill the inoccent Benazir Shaheed.
Dear we have to start a group of students for to kick back these corrupt peoples.
this is crazy. Why can we not cut down on all this and feed the poor. Poverty is one reason why a lot of youth gets attracted to extremism and convinced by the religious leaders. People need to take notice of this.
individual change is what we all require. We have to change ourselves within and let our minds grow. Let the minds give space to liberal views and appreciate the views of others too. The day we begin to respect each other we will succeed inshallah.
