Scar Soul

by Ahson Malick on December 16, 2009

Sun of surrender finally has risen again and its about to fall in moments, his shine was narrating a tale of pain and agony whole day and was causing the most uncomfortable feelings one could ever experience , When one gets impair or hurt physically he gets a wound, but when soul gets a wound it becomes scar, because bodies can heal and rehabilitate, span of soul’s suffering is some times undying, for the reason that soul’s scar just won’t heal, body parishes but soul remains so is the wounds it takes, it stays in and remind its host about it’s existence every now and then.

When one revisit Dhaka fall in profound manner he tends to focus more on the blunders committed by Pakistani establishment in background of political scenario which eventually led Pakistan to the most catastrophic incident of its history, thing most of the time people miss is burden of that event, which has caused the most astonishing jolt, haunted the extreme romanticism people relate with idea behind the creation of Pakistan, it was a disagreeable lumber on a core of an entire generation, a generation which saw the dream came true and then later felt that dream which they bloomed with their blood and sweat has died and only thing remain was the eternal pain, it’s quite right to state that it’s a saddle, a really bitter and sore one, From 16 December 1971 to 16 December 2009, it’s a long crossing, a long trip to the memory lane, a passage started well before most of us, every year 16 December brings some thing that I always wanted it to downright, a grudge which is hidden within, a hideous reality one has to face, which some times we try to neglect under blurring lies and egotistical manners of stating the emotions like it was some thing bound to happen and things like east Pakistan was not exactly the part of the idea or tales narrating a alleviate that it was something imperative that had happened for our good, one can’t hide himself behind a fairy tale, it can be done for sometime but certainly it can’t be done forever, Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose the spirit of this ailing bulwark, behind which we are sitting smother and placid as it was nothing, just another page of history we tend to over look each day we explore such entity, nothing but a routine, but it’s not, I met many people who are carrying this same resent and come to conclusion that certainly I am not alone who is holding this scar, there are many, it’s a reality which took ages, it’s been a long time coming but it finally has, it’s really a long hard pale of passed past on the one’s inside which is still recurring and constantly staying deep inside and providing evidence of its existence, it’s a debt this band of scar souls owe, debt of tears, blood and dreams, tears of Noor-ul-Amin(last vice president of Pakistan) on the door steps of Quaid’s tomb and tears of millions others, blood shed of Pakistanis Bengalis and non Bengalis alike, dreams of coming generation who later came to know that dream which they are holding so dear has already witnessed a phantom agony, those were satins earlier, which later become scars, scars of those tears, splashes of those blood and dreams have obsessed these souls for long long time, obsessed will not be the right word, it has haunted them, it has been a long time coming now one should look for a cure.

If someone attempts to review the whole scenario of Dhaka Fall he will come to know that it was us who are to be blame for it, other stake holders only manipulated the created backdrop. Someone did it on the name of unwanted refugees and some one contributed on the excuse of cold war, it was more of a political matter which was imprudently handled by the establishment of United Pakistan, Bengalis were denied of their fundamental rights under suppressing dictator ship. Dhaka Fall was designed and planned out side as well as inside, Political establishment which was strongly intermingled with military mindset handled former East Pakistan with unwillingness and like a saddle to be thrown off, there was major lack of balance in the approach on the political level, either it was extreme hardliners like JI which overwhelmingly tried to made it look like a battle of good and evil and supported military operation in former East Pakistan which led people of East Pakistan further to the sidelines, and on other hand it was the political leader ship of PPP and co who falter willingly to eventually marginalize the people of East Pakistan and made them fall into the violent voices apparently for the sake of the power, political grounds were shaped for such un wanted happening on macro level by raising differences among the people of the two region, East Pakistan was in majority and they were the foremost resisting voice against the Ayub Regime, 1964 presidential election further raveled this reality when people of east Pakistan strongly voted against Ayub Khan, regime’s decision holding with declaration of the  state being as one unit was considered as an act of stifle those voices down, it was East Pakistan which acted like a spearhead in the independence movement, All India Muslim League used Bengal as the base camp for the creation of Pakistan, people of Bengal played their part magnificently and supported the two nation theory stronger than any other province, its partially right that Pakistan movement was carried and bloomed in the Muslim minority provinces of united India but when it all came down to making a real strong statement it was Muslims of Bengal who stood up to the task along with their leader ship, leader ship which later after creation of Pakistan was labeled as disloyal 1st by the people who were declared as loose change by Quaid and later by following military regime of Ayub Khan.

Regime marginalized sane balanced people like Hussain Shaeed Seherwardi, who was a popular leader of east Pakistan even before partition as chief minister of Bengal, significance of direct action day in partition and independence movement can’t be denied at any cost, All India Muslim league declared its intentions in that event which later led to the foundation of Pakistan, Sherwerdi played a vital role being the chief minister in calming the riots and affirm the objectives of a display of power which originally meant as a peaceful demonstration of voice of Muslims of Bengal in favor of Pakistan, but unfortunately systematic events lead that to a bloody mess in which CM Sherwerdi acted like a true states man, allegation are there to look at but most of them are just claims, more of a propaganda inflow from congress and pro-indian sources, reason for highlighting Sherwerdi’s role in this context is to describe nature of part he had played in independence movement and to look at stature of man who was labeled as rebel and corrupt by the one who actually has all the traits of being label as one. This ultimately leaved the burden of leading the people on more vigorous and violent minds which were more eager to look for a sponsored solution Bhartis played the role they always loved, in return they have bought a pledge, a pledge from the fallen souls, the scar souls owe them a reimbursement, it’s not like something one can do wash his hands and walk away, no, its not that easy, it probably will be a long time coming but tables will turned around and all the debts will be cleared so one can start from yet another clean slate.

The province of Bengal had a greater population than all the other provinces of Pakistan combined, they certainly were the majority, we tried to suppress majority and majority decided to turn their back on us. The message we failed to pick from the disaster of 1971 is that mutiny is rarely decisive by itself; it cover the way for foreign invasion. It’s good to revisit history but with a wiser standpoint, because if we don’t, we would be fated by history forever. What we can do now is to pick the lessons, lesson we must learn from that chapter, lessons which will help us in tackling current bizarre circumstances, when people will be denied to their basic right there will be no romanticism which will hold them back they will retaliate and retaliate in a grand way, mistakes committed in east Pakistan should be consider as the learning curve in running a state based on such magnificent ideology, most of the common mass was unaware of what was happening in East Pakistan they were fed up by the news releases from ISPR and fake claims of so-called Tiger Niyazi,(i some time wonder if he would have call himself tiger after fall of 16 December) but today information flow is so very clear that one just can’t hide the truth so what one need to do is to listen to the angry voices from Baluchistan, Pukhtoonkwha and other complaining parties from various ethnic units, and should sincerely try to make up for their opinion, in that regard NFC award 2009 is a step in right direction one can’t claim it to be the ultimate step but it is a step in right direction where in the 1st time history four Providences able to come close to a possible acceptable resolution , hopefully spirit will continue.

As far as scar souls are concern well they are gathering in numbers, getting out of their bulwarks, they are lining up, lining up for the grand illusion of the grand execution their adversary is their scar, scar has to go down in order to get a roam for the soul to heal, if one look with a mature approach he will find that this is hardly worth fighting for, but it’s a pity those souls can’t ignore, its been a long time coming but someone finally got the message now, soul will never be going its the scar which will be going down.

Very Well written article ,no doubt Bengali Muslims played a pivtol role in Independance, they were in majority their votes had weight to play major rule in partition.I personaly feel ashamed & regrets that what our selfish leaders did to them why they cornered them.Yes,you are absolutely right ,that same game is being played at Baluchistan & Tribal Areas.I have strong feelings that without green signal from Armed forces our Leaders can’t move ,Every leader could’nt be Like Ex-Prime Minister Jamali Sahib.
