Recently made fan page of Pervez Musharraf on Facebook, has a whooping 50,000 fans that seem to support him and most of them include the younger or middle-aged generation; as compared to the page ‘We hate Pervez Musharrf’ which only has 993 members. Such a huge difference is an eye-wakening for many.

In the info section the Personal information has been summed like this,

I have had the good fortune and privilege to lead my country and serve the people of Pakistan for almost nine years. Since my retirement as President of Pakistan in August 2008, I have been keeping myself busy with a global lecture series. I have found this to be a stimulating experience as I get an opportunity to share my thoughts with audiences of different nationalities having diverse backgrounds. During these lectures, I allocate half the time or more for frank question and answer sessions, which afford me an opportunity to learn about the perspectives of my audience.

Besides the lectures, I find time to meet well wishers and friends. After many years of a regimented daily routine, I am able to spend quality time with my family. I also find time to play Golf, Tennis and Bridge.”

Whereas in the personal interests goes like,

FAVORITE JOURNALS: Economist, Newsweek, Time, India Today.

FAVORITE QUOTATIONS:
I have a favorite blend of famous quotations and my own thoughts relating to decision-making. Firstly, Napoleon’s strategic decision making philosophy, that every decision is “two-thirds analysis, and one-third leap in the dark.” I feel trying to expand the two-thirds analysis leads to “paralysis through analysis” (Nixon’s quote), and expanding the one-third leap in the dark leads to recklessness, endangering oneself and others. Striking the right balance is the true art of decision making.

“Few individuals significantly alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state. Mohammad Ali Jinnah did all three.” – Historian Stanley Wolpert

FAVORITE FOODS:
The entire spectrum of Pakistani cuisine. I have a special liking for Chinese soups, Turkish dishes and on casual occasions a bite of Burger with a helping of french fries and green salads
.

FAVORITE CARD GAME: Bridge.

FAVORITE SPORTS (TO PLAY): Tennis, Golf.

FAVORITE SPORTS (TO WATCH): Cricket, Tennis.

FAVORITE MUSICIAN (MUSIC): Ghazals in general and pre-partition film songs, Noor Jehan, Mehdi Hasan, Saigol, Mukesh.

FAVORITE MOVIES:
Westerns (Many), The Three Musketeers, World War II films (Many), Historical Epics (Ben Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, Spartacus, Gladiator, The Last Samurai); Current Day Thrillers (Many).

FAVORITE TELEVISION SHOWS: I have not watched a television series in a very long time.”

The page is almost updated daily with comments on the current happenings in Pakistan and updates on the personal life to a certain extent. Most of the page has political material like, ‘The Afghan Pakistan Solution’ or the interview with channels or notes about the lectures.

The comments to the wall posts on the page are almost positive for Pervez Musharraf like, “We miss you, or we are with you” so on and so forth.

In a way it is positive to see a Pakistani leader using such forums to interact with people and also that so many people are responding in a positive way. Not many former leaders especially dictators have been remembered in this way. The fan page also updates the members with upcoming interactions and commitments.

The discussion section of the page is marked with heated debates between the 50,000 fans where die heart fans are not willing to listen to a word against Musharraf; and even one fan has entitled him as Sir Pervez Musharraf.

Than in the Notes section there is a compilation of the articles and notes that have been written by Musharraf himself; which also generate good communication and convey the message as well. And then there is the photo section where various pictures of Musharraf have been uploaded.

Overall a nice way to keep in touch with your fans and to find out what people think about you and how do they remember you; but the sad part is this small note on the main page, “Please engage constructively; uncivil posts will be removed or edited” though in a way right to stop any spam but on the other end to avoid criticism to some extent.

There is no doubt that when Musharraf came in power he was widely supported by the masses and his initial steps also helped to the betterment of the country but the War on Terror and his political aides let him down. It is important to remember that judicial blunder was due to Shaukat Aziz and his ill-advice to the Musharraf. What’s more saddening to see is that we are all targeting one person and that is Musharraf; even his own retired army men that include former Corps Command Jamshed Gulzar, Lt. General (R) Shahid Aziz and Lt. General (R) Qayyum (former Chairman of Pakistan Steel mil) openly criticized him after they were retired or removed from important posts. I think the man that damaged most was Shaukat Aziz, a man who left the country right after his tenure was completed; who could not wait to run away and yet we have forgotten him; who gave this country the techniques to create artificial shortage; who diverted our economy to service economy and who formed to be the last nail in the coffin for the Former President Musharraf!

we need a campaign sumthin like ANTI-TALIBAN page. That would be a good idea. We could use the media to send out excess msgz to defeat the Taliban and condemn their barbaric acts.

this is a pretty awkward video to be on media. I condemn this personally I think this is the time when the media should try to show everything positive as people need a hope to live rather then just watching negative stuff being done by the militant are crazy!!

But who brought Shaukat Aziz? I think it was Prevez Mushraff, the whole responsibility for the present mess lies with Prevez Mushraff.

Even the worst democracy is better than the best dictatorship. Atleast with democracy, you can change your leaders. With a dictatorship, you’re stuck with them till the time nature takes its due course, which in some cases, can be very long.

What we need is a representative democracy where our leaders come from grass root levels, unlike the present, where the entire scene is dominated by the rich and the waderas. Clan based politics must come to an end and we should hold all our leaders accountable.

The first step is that all out political bigwigs and bureaucrats must declare their total wealth and income so that we can judge if they even deserve to hold that position. MOre than half the lot will get rejected after this step.

I hate to argue with this lunatic nation but i will like to ask all the people here, that previously these were your People in Afghan War and now when the table turns they became the biggest threat to this nation, the only difference is you were all beggars to US and dependent on them that time and you still are dependent to the US while they are not, they are defending and its their right so NO i am not going to raise my voice against them, we are Pakistanis and we are responsible for the mess that is going on.

@ Imran Ali … i don’t know who you are referring to when you use the word, ‘LUNCATIC NATION’? The problem is that you seem to be short-sighted as you should remember the fact that the nation never made the decision whether fighting USSR in Afghanistan or fighting Talibans; it always has been the dictators that made these decisions! As far as begging to US goes then again the leaders never asked this nation for their support; the begging is only for the leaders for their own expenses and not for the masses; you have seem to ridiculed your own self when you call yourself a Pakistani in the later part of your comment and i don’t know who is defending who but it definitely is hurting Pakistanis more than anything!

He always boasted to be an honest man,he proved to entirly opposite of that.He looted himself and helped all the corrupt who were sorrounding him like moochers.he never was a good soldier.Gen Asif Nawaz Janjua had sealed his fate when he was abrigadier but he got away with everything after the death of Gen Asif.

Pakistan: You can change a military ruler but you could never change a ruler who comes through vote. It is true that politician or protest cannot depose military ruler as military ruler comes with backing of army and as long as army is with that person he rules (army was with Musharraf throughout and if he wanted to, no corrupt politician or corrupt judge’s bhangra on road could have deposed him).

Anyhow, Pakistan saw 4 military ruler leaving office. Ayub was deposed by Yahya Khan (another general), Yahya was deposed by junior military officers who made their seniors agree to get rid of Yahya, Zia had a call from Allah else he would have ruled until death, and Musharraf left as probably he got fed-up with Pakistani retards. On the other hand, Pakistani so-called politicians never leave power however good or bad they are, rather they do not leave even when they die, as they leave their bastard kids to rule the nation by hook or crook in their place.

Saleem, you have the analysis in reverse. You can change the ‘government’ simply by an election. You *can not* remove a dictator. Ayub was not deposed by Yahya, he relinquished office in public protest and Yahya became the interim administrator. And as you said, Zia was removed by death not by any ‘normal’ process. As for Musharraf, he had to leave as his entry was illegal.

Please come back and support pakistan, poor people are dying, rich people are loosing their hopes to stay in pakistan, corruption, dishonesty is strengthening. Pakistani people need a leader like you, never ever think that all Pakistanis will support you, 50% are illiterate 40% are under control of Jagirdars and Choudries, 5% are with extremists so you have to focus 5% people to vote you and that 5% have the strength to change the whole situation, so please get ready to face the worst to get the best (for us pakistanis) Hope and wish the best for you.
