by MJK on December 1, 2009

One of our reader needed some help from us and here is her comment:

i need information of beurue of statistics of pakistan. that by which method they calculating price indexes pf market basket plz reply me fast i need this info urgently i shall b very thankful to you people

So i decided to answer her query and also to share it our other readers since i think it will help a lot of  people doing research on this topic in and outside Pakistan. For the sake of clarity, i will rephrase the question asked by our reader.

Our reader is interested to know how all three Price Indexes are calculated in Pakistan and what method is used for this purpose.  In, Pakistan we have three different price indexes namely Consumer Price Index (CPI), Wholesale Price Index (WPI) and Sensitive Price Index (SPI). These three price indexes are used and widely reported by our regulators and media to measure the inflation in Pakistan. However, CPI is mostly quoted since it is the most relevant measure for measuring general inflation trends in Pakistan.

I am attaching a document that is made available by State Bank of Pakistan to answer all such queries as you have just raised. The document contains the following:

In every war may it be econmy or extremism the civilians are getting killed. The media is too busy still talking about NRO. NO1 will like to cover this and give it maximum time. The media should be playing a much better role at this time.
