Looming Operation in South Waziristan

by MJK on September 28, 2009

It has been reported in Dawn and The News that army has asked the locals in South Waziristan to vacate their homes and shift to safe places outside the South Waziristan tribal area. They have also reported mass migration by the resident as they have also got warning from the Talibans to vacate their homes which comes as a surprise to me since i expected the Talibans to use the civilians as human shields as per our experience in Swat. However, it seems that situation is different in South Waziristan, which is long considered the bastion of Talibans or terrorists as we may call them. The unusual confidence of the Talibans in South Waziristan have baffled many analysts and military planners. The continuous drone attacks and surgical operations by Pakistan army have not weaken their resolve to fight a full scale war.

The operation is expected to cause another refugee crises for the people of the province who are yet to recover from the Swat operation and the resulting refugee crises. Even the refugees of operation in Khyber Agency have not yet returned to their homes. The provincial government has been making all out efforts to adjust the brace for the crises but it has failed in the past and will not be of much help in the future.

Few of the questions that are yet to be answered by the governemnt sitting in the capital is that where are the funds that Americans have given to Pakistan for the refugees and the development of the region? Why the details of the American aid is not disclosed to the Pakistani assembly and why NWFP is not receiving the major chunk of the non military aid when it is the bearing the major brunt of the operations?

We have traditionally accused US of doing injustices in the world but we have ourselves been doing the same to our smaller provinces and hence proving the myth that might is right and that “True Justice” only exist in the novels of the past and is out of fasion word in current times.  The Pashtuns are suffering and their province has been made a “mini Afghanistan” by the wrong policies of people sitting in the capital.

The looming operation in South Waziristan will bring a new spate of death and destruction to the people of the region and new unsung tales of horror and brutality will take place without a clear end in sight. Let’s make sure that a decisive action takes place and that no more lives of our brave soldiers are wasted for the larger interests of the people sitting in comfortable palaces in Islamabad, London and Washington.

Upto one extent Rana sahib is right, now we are expreincing that some factions of Pak.army are fighting openly among each other. What is the Issue? US $ ? The War Of Share?
Gen.Kiyani has choosen a very Dangerous path of survival, his decisions will lead us to a war with “IRAN”,unstability in pakisatn ,economic crisis & War of share(us$).
