If ever two people have dominated any professional sport, it has to be the two Khans from Pakistan, Jahangir Khan & Jansher Khan. The two squash players on their own can be the most dominating individuals in any professional sport. Mohammad Ali in boxing, Tiger Woods in Golf, Don Bradman In Cricket, in the same breath we have the Two Khans in Squash. But really is their any king of kings here? lets explore their careers and put them against each other, who you think was better of the champions.

Jahangir Khan:

Jahangir Khan is considered by many to be the greatest player in the history of the game. During his career he won the World Open six times and the British Open a record ten times. Between 1981 and 1986, he was unbeaten in competitive play for five years. During that time he won 555 matches consecutively. This was not only the longest winning streak in squash history, but also one of the longest unbeaten runs by any athlete in top-level professional sports.

Jansher Khan:

Jansher Khan is widely considered to be one of the greatest squash players of all time. During his career he won the World Open a record eight times, and the British Open six times.

The Rivalry Between The Two Greats:

Jahangir won their first few encounters in late-1986 and early-1987. But Jansher scored his first win over Jahangir in September 1987, beating him in straight games in the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Open. Jansher then went on to beat Jahangir in their next eight consecutive encounters and capture the 1987 World Open title.
Jahangir ended Jansher’s winning streak in March 1988, and went on to win 11 of their next 15 encounters. The pair met in the 1988 World Open final, with Jahangir emerging the victor. The pair continued to dominate the game for the rest of the decade. Jansher and Jahangir met a total of 37 times in tournament play. Jansher won 19 matches (74 games and 1,426 points), and Jahangir 18 matches (79 games and 1,459 points). This record doesn’t include exhibition matches and league matches between them.
Jahangir did not win the World Open again after 1988, but he continued a stranglehold over the British Open title which he captured a record ten successive times between 1982 and 1991.

The Statistical Match Up:

There is nothing between the two kings, Jansher has win more World Titles, while Jansher has incredible tally on the number of British open. Besides 5 year unbeaten streak where he managed to win more than 500 matches in a row. Its time for your call. Who is the greatest among the greatest, personally both are champs and icons of world sports. Pro-Pakistan and the entire Pakistan is proud of you two.

Pakistan and all muslims around the world should be proud of the two Khan’s. To have two sporting icon’s who dominated the world of squash for a long period of time is something to feel proud of. I was fortunate to meet Jahnagir Khan at the Sony award 2008 in Londen even though it was very brief, but it was an honour to meet the great sporting legend . Got my first squash racket at the age of 36yrs a few years back. It was a painful time having to face to reality and overcome the death of my mother and the breakdown of my marriage. I found squash a great stress buster and 4 years on i have managed to get my life back on track and thankfully to squash, a sport i have become to love and enjoy, life is bliss…..! Just like to ask somebody out there! ” why Pakistan has not produced another Khan, ” is it a class thing! or why are the two legends not promoting the game of squash they loved….! Personally Jahangir just edges Jansher but both are legends.

Both were greatest of all players. both ve their style of plying the game. jhangir used to play Stylish game and used to finish the game in quick fashion while Jhansher use to play game on Stamina and was master in that. i think the records made by both the players are unique like the 5 years unbeaten run By jhangur and 10 times b open . but one record was missed by my friend Owais i;e Jhansher remained World No. 1 for over six years a record for any player in any Game in 20th century.
