PP Poll - Which Party You Will Support in Next Elections?

by MJK on August 29, 2009

Pro-Pakistan conducts polls from time to time to take the pulse of the Pakistani community on different issues. Recently, we conducted a PP Poll to take our readers opinion as to which party they will support in the next general election in Pakistan? Before going into the results, i must clarify few things here. The polls are conducted online and on the site of Pro-Pakistan and hence a limited Pakistani audience participate in it. In this latest poll, a total of 828 people participated. The results of the polls shows the opinion of the educated Pakistani’s who have access to the internet and actively follow blog sites like ours and hence do not represent the common Pakistani people to a greater extent. Common Pakistani citizens lacks access to internet and hence their opinion might be different from the results of this poll.  Blog sites like Pro-Pakistan are mostly visited by youth of Pakistan and therefore we can say that the results of this poll are mostly based on their opinion. Moreover, overseas Pakistani also uses internet and visit Pakistani blog sites and therefore their opinion is also best reflected in the results.

Now coming towards the Results of the Poll with Poll Question “Which Party You will Support in the Next General Elections in Pakistan?”. The answer choices given to the readers were:

1) Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf

2) Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz

3) Pakistan Peoples Party

4) Muttahida Qaumi Movement

5) Awami National Party

6) JUI-JI - The Islamic Parties (at least they claim so)

7) Others

8) None of the above

Now keeping the above options in mind, one can safely assume that approximately all major parties have been included in the results with two extra options giving the readers a choice not to support any of these parties or to show their willingness to support any other party beside them. The purpose of these two choices was to see if our readers value these parties or opt for others parties or no party at all.

Now the results are as following:

1) PTI - 321 votes with 39% of total votes

2) PML - N 233 votes with 28% of total votes

3) MQM - 106 votes with 13% of total votes

4) None - 88 votes with 10% of total votes

5) PPP - 44 votes with 5% of total votes

6) Others - 22 votes with 3% of total votes

7) JI-JUI - 15 votes with 2% of total votes

And finally

8) ANP with 3 votes with approx 0% of total votes

Looking at the above results, one can easily see that our young, technologically active and overseas Pakistani’s support Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf as it secures maximum votes. I should also mention here that someone from the PTI posted the link of Pro-Pakistan on the international site of PTI to poll their opinion in favor of the party to get the results tilted in favor of PTI. Even in that case, it shows the enthusiasm of the party members and their use of the latest means of communication to secure votes. However, in actual elections, the voters have to take physical pain of visiting the polling stations to cast their votes and it is at that point that the results are different. Majority of the youth of this country never cast their votes and hence do not express their opinion at all.

I think it is a very wrong practise in which i am myself involved. I never casted my vote but i am very vocal in voicing my opinions against our politicians. I believe that without casting my vote, i am myself responsible for the worst leaders that gets elected and hence bring havoc in our lives and the future of our country.

Let’s take the results of this poll as an indicator that if the youth of this nation decides to take interest in our electoral process and go to polling stations to cast their votes, the results would be much different and hence the future of the country will also be the way we vote it to be and not at the mercy of others who are least concerned about it.  I also agree with those arguments that rigging takes place but it is not a big deal since no body can rig 100% of the result. If we all decide to get active and show our opinions, no body or party will be in a position to rig 100% of the results. Rigging only takes place when the difference is of few percentages but it will be very difficult to alter the results when there is a clear  majority.

Let’s spread the word and educate the people to use their power in the next general elections and make a difference in their own lives and in the destiny of our motherland inshAllah.
