According to insider sources, the Zong - Telenor deal has been signed and the news will be announced soon at an appropriate time. The final price of the deal has not been made public but Pro-Pakistan estimate it to be worth around $1.8 billion. What we really need to see is if Telenor and Zong will consolidate or stay separate. The case of consolidation seems strong but it will take some time before complete consolidation takes place. Consolidation is what was long expected in Pakistani telecom industry since it has already reached maturity and growth was not possible in the presence of 5 strong operators. Let’s see how other companies like Ufone and Mobilink respond to this news. However, it is certain that the industry is going to see some killing competition in terms of prices if the PTA does not use its muscles to bring strong regulations. It is also worth mentioning here that it is the habit of Chinese companies to drop down prices to an extent that the competition is eliminated and once that is done, they create a monoply and rule the market. After my communication (just a while ago) with Telenor Pakistan, China Mobile Headquarter, PTA - no one affirmed the news.
By the way, PTA must be notified prior to any such agreement, that’s part of law. and till now, PTA has no official request for approval of such takeover/merger/partial acquisition.
But for a fact, we know that something is in pipeline - but that is still to happen.
If done. Industry will move to normalize from stress.
$1.8 Billion, I think it will be near $1 billion. But great update never the less. Aamir , please keep us updated if any news is confirmed.
I hope telenor k ganday intezami jaraseem Zong main na ajain :(
That’s really something extra ordinary i think if zong acquired it ‘ll become 3rd big player after mobilink & ufone and there is equal chance of becoming 2nd.
Hey ‘ Aaqil Mehmodd’ what you said ”ganday intezami jaraseem ”There is so many things which differentiate TELENOR form other companies, ZONG never kept any of there promises and found in offensive media campaign in the market. And you want people to believe that ZONG acquired 51% shares in TELENOR (sounds crazy) it’s a dream of a lunatic. Do you have any idea what TELENOR is? Aggressive, outrageous crusades, and team with absolute talent…. Wakeup man this beauty is tied with TELENOR. Have you ever got the dispensation to speak a ‘’TELENORIAN’’ (of course not otherwise you wouldn’t be like this).
kia peddi our kia peddi ka shoorba.
This is all cheap marketing strategies which we have been seeing in our beloved country for the past so many years, all we need to do is ignore such rumors :)
and as for Aaqil i think he is just being a true Zong employee also goes for Aijaz but you know what chalo i wont say anything liet people decide WHO WINS :P
Aaqil just one thing for you be RESPECTFUL while conversing it will make you dominant as well as prominant :) take care all Allah Hafiz
Ijaz very well said bro,
It is not a rumor. Infact CMPak will be investing 8 times greater than planned Telenor Network Infrastructure (Telenor had set targets of 8000 sites where as CMPak is projecting 65000 sites).
This will happen sooner or later since parent country of CMPak i.e. China is renouned of doing such things in past : ) (China Maal :P ; ) )
The only question that comes to mind is.. QA (Quality Assurance).
/ Sinner ~ ~
There have been success stories as well as bad news when it comes to mergers of big firms/companies.
I sincerely wish, hope & pray that all employees of both the companies will continue to make the difference & wish them a prosperous & healthy future.
Hopefully in the event of merger, the company will focus on maximizing ARPU & would penitrate deeper into the region.
Regards,
Ali.
Statement from China Mobile’s CEO that appeared in today’s (18-aug-09) Express Daily (Karachi) confirms that China Mobile (Zong) IS NOT trying to buy any other operator in Pakistan and such rumors are mere rumors.
Read it for yourself by going to express.com.pk > editions > karachi > pages > 6-business > right most column > 2nd last news item from the top. or visit the below URL:
http://www.express.com.pk/epaper/PoPupwindow.aspx?newsID=1100694869&Issue=NP_KHI&Date=20090818
Now either CEO of China Mobile is lying or M Juniad Khan is. I think, to tell a lie in public is more risky than lying on a blog, but you are free to believe what you want.
End of discussion.
50 % true, to my sources, its not the case of merger, Telenor management has decided to shut down its operations in Pakistan. The management is negotiating with CMPak as well as with Wateen for the sale of 100% shares.
In 1st or 2nd week of September details are expected to be public.
This is all Hoax, and unreliable
This might be true because telenor wants to go to india and for that
1. They need fast money
2. Indian policy regarding pakistan (indian telenori can come to pak, pak telenori cannot come to india)
So they made a choice
:)
ASSALAM O LAIKUM BROTHERS
YAR IF U SAY THAT TELENOR IS GOING TO INDIA AND LEAVING PAKISTAN BEHIND SO THEIR IS A BIG REASON FOR THAT.
FIRST OF ALL TELENOR WAS THREATENED AND ITS PROPERTY WAS DESTROYED SEVERAL TIMESTIMES BECOZ OF THE ISSUES THAT WAS RAISED IN ISLAMIC WORLD ABOUT OUR HOLY PROPHET HAZRAT MUHAMMAD S.A.W.W AND HIS SANCTITY AND THE DISRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR OF NORWEGION INDIVIDUAL ABOUT OUR HOLY PROPHET S.A.W.W.THIS ISSUE WHEN RAISED IN PAKISTAN IT LED TO THE DISTRUCTION OF TELENOR PAKISTAN IMAGE AND PROPERTY.
ANOTHER THING IS THE SECURITY FACTOR IN PAKISTAN.THE THREAT OF TALIBANISATION AND MILITANCY FAILED TELENOR IN ACHIVING THIER GOALS OF EXPANDING THEIR NETWORKS ALL OVER THE PAKISTAN SPECIALLY IN NORTHERN AREAS OF PAKISTAN AND SOME PART OF BALUCHISTAN.
TELENOR HAS WON THE HIGHEST TAX PAYER AWARD IN PAKISTAN EVEN THEN ZONG AND U-FONE IS GIVING A TOUGH TIME TO TELENOR PAKISTAN.BECOZ OF DAY TO DAY DECREASING RATES AND INCREASING QUALITY.AND ZONG IS EVEN GIONG ON A BREAK EVEN POINT IN TELECOM INDUSTRY SO IMAGINE THE STRESS AND COMPETITION THAT ZONG IS CREATING IN THE MARKET.
INDIAN GOVERNMENT IS GIVING FAR LESS EXPENSIVE LABOUR AND RESOURCES TO TELENOR AND ALSO HELPING TELENOR TO ESTABLISH IN AFGHANISTAN SO OPPORTUNITY IS THERE.SO ONE CAN EXPECT TELENOR TO SHIFT ITS BUSINESS TO INDIA, SEVERAL COMPANIES HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE.
POWER FAILURE IS ANOTHER FACTOR WHICH IS EFFECTING THE COMMUNICATION BADLY.ANDRISING THEIR EXPENSES DAY BY DAY.
MARKETING STRATEGIES:
IF U CAREFULLY SEE AND OBSERVE THE COMMERCIALS OF TELENOR THER ARE COMPLETELY CONFUSED, SHOWING NO LINKAGE BETWEEN THEM THAT WHERE THEY ARE HEADIND TOWARDS??? SO THEY MUST SHOW LINKAGE BETWEEN THEIR COMMERCIALS AND POLICIES THAT WHAT ARE THEY UP TO? IN ACQUIRING THE COSTOMERS ATTENTION AND MARKET SHARE.THE MAIN THING IN THEIR PRODUCT LINE IS TALKSHAWK AND D-JUICE NOW PEOPLE ARE TOTALY CONFUSED IN THIS RESPECT.SO THEY SHOULD TRY TO MAKE CLEAR AND CONCISE COMMERCIALS SO PEOPLE CAN EASILY UNDERSTAND THAT WHAT TELENOR IS UP TO.
IF I AM WRONG PLZ CORRECT ME.I AM LOYAL CUSTOMER OF TELENOR PAKISTAN AND A KEEN OBSERVER OF BUSINESS STRATEGIES AND I HAVE FACED THESE PROBLEMS AND THE RESPONSE OF THE PEOPLE AROUND ME WHO ARE USING TELENOR.
AND PLZ USE RESPECTFUL COMMUNICATION AND BAHAVIOR TOWARD EACH OTHER AND RESPECTS EACH OTERS NORMS AND VALUES.THANK U….
REGARDS
ASIF WAHAB
Khabarnama khatam hua…
