Aasman: Hadiqa Kiyani’s Latest Album Review

by Owais Ehsan on July 14, 2009

Pakistan’s leading female pop singer Hadiqa Kiyani is back after a long break of almost 6 years to publish her new album Aasmaan. No ! she wasnt away she did had performances here and there besides performing with arguably Pakistan’s best guitarist Amir Zaki. But this time she finally came up with her solo album.

Hadiqa in the past has released Raaz, Roshni, Rung - i was betting a title starting with R ! but anyways this one is titled Aasmaan. Irfan Kiani (Hadika’s Brother) JKD (British based producer) and herself have put in great effort into this new album.

The album is as usual inspired by RnB with regular , punjabi bangra and arabic themes for diversity. The vocals are mostly in Punjabi, as its a secure option for Hadika with her earlier success of Roshni and Rung having many punjabi hits (bohay barian).

Instep sums up the album;
Nothing dampened Hadiqa’s spirit because when you listen to Aasmaan, you can’t end up but smile at what Hadiqa has attempted and gotten away with: a groovy, R’n'B record that is slick in production, fun in wordplay and hip in music.

Here is the complete Playlist of Songs:
1. Wanjli
2. Jab se Tum
3. Sohnya
4. Chankata
5. Tuk Tuk
6. Jaanan
7. Zara Zara
8. Az Chashme Saki
9. Dil Mera
10. Sajna Sajna
11. Shalala (Kids Club Mix)
12. Zara Zara (Club Mix)

All in all a great album and we wish Hadika Kiyani all the success. Also we ask all the fans to buy the Cd and not download it from online.

That “Sa na na na” thing at end of every line made that song mediocre for me.

Janaan is by far the best song in the album. I dont know why it did’nt get much attention. It comes as a surprise though. Hadiqa singing in Pashto. Shes tried something different in this album because even though she is the top female singers in the country she does’nt feel she gets as much attention as she should.

We need to promote our people and our Nation. We ignore our artists and musicians. We have to support our own music industry, our own people and our nation. We cannot keep giving the Indians a market.
