Shandur Polo Festival starts 7th July on World’s highest Polo Ground

Shandur Polo Festival or more popularly known as Shandur Mela is about to start from 7th of July till 9th of July. Shandur attracts visitors to experience a traditional polo tournament which is being held since 1936 on annual basis in July between the teams of Chitral and Gilgit. The tournament is held on Shandur Pass, the highest polo ground in the world at 3,700 meters (the pass itself is at 3,800m). There are lots of other attractions as well on the festival like Folk music, dancing with a camping village in beautiful and serene enviornment. (Wikipedia.com)

This festival has lots of tourist attractions as they can take a ride to Shandur Lake or stay and wander around in Gilgit, Chitral and Skardu valleys, the most of beautiful of northern Pakistan. great pics. I have personal experience of seeing one of these polo matches back in 2001 - and its nothing that you would expect, the scenery , atmosphere , tough polo , massive crowd - its like playing polo in heaven.

Must go place for anyone. You will get your moneys worth.
