Afghan Massacre-The Convoy of Death-Video Documentary

by MJK on April 2, 2009

I just came across this documentary and watched it. I wonder why the CNN and BBC never showed this side of War to its viewers? Isn’t it important to show to the world what the Americans and its closest allies have done to the Afghan people. Probably this documentary will explain to us the fact as to why the Talibans never accept any offer for negotiation with the Americans and its allies. More then 6000 Talibans and other Pashtuns were massacred who tried to surrender or whose only crime was the fact that they spoke Pashtu language. I am sure the American viewers will open up their eyes to this new reality emerging from their so called “WAR ON TERROR”.

According to the documentary information”

“The film was researched by award-winning journalist Najibullah Quraishi. Produced and directed by Irish filmmaker and former BBC producer Jamie Doran,

the film tells the story of thousands of prisoners who surrendered to the US military’s Afghan allies after the siege of Kunduz. According to the film, some three thousand of the prisoners were forced into sealed containers and loaded onto trucks for transport to Sheberghan prison. When the prisoners began shouting for air, U.S.- allied Afghan soldiers fired directly into the truck, killing many of them. The rest suffered through an appalling road trip lasting up to four days, so thirsty they clawed at the skin of their fellow prisoners as they licked perspiration and even drank blood from open wounds. Witnesses say that when the trucks arrived and soldiers opened the containers, most of the people inside were dead. They also say US Special Forces re-directed the containers carrying the living and dead into the desert and stood by as survivors were shot and buried. Now, up to three thousand bodies lie buried in a mass grave. Outraged human rights groups and lawyers are calling for an investigation but the U.N. special envoy to Afghanistan refuses any U.N.-backed investigation until the Afghan government can protect witnesses. Two of the witnesses in the film have already been killed. The film provides eyewitness testimony that U.S. troops were complicit in the massacre of thousands of Taliban prisoners during the Afghan War. The film has sent shockwaves around the world. It has been broadcast on national television in Britain, Germany, Italy and Australia. It has been screened by the European parliament. It has outraged human rights groups and international human rights lawyers. They are calling for investigation into whether U.S. Special Forces are guilty of war crimes.”

The following is the documentary for the ready reference of our readers.

I wouldn’t have been surprised if a majority of people in the west cheered to see 6000 Taliban get killed. Still its very bad to kill anyone who surrenders as it makes people less likely to surrender in the future. Wonderfully short sighted of the yanks not to try and mitigate the actions of their NA allies. They probably thought of it as nothing more than what had become standard practice in the last decade of intercine Afghan warfare though so didn’t give two hoots.

I’m really getting sick of reading Chris Hayes views on whats happening in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Instead of giving us your narrow-minded views concentrate on all the crimes, rapes and murders taking place everyday in the West. Less than 1000 americans were killed in the 9/11 attack, that does not justify the killing of more than 6000 afghani’s.

@Chris! I think without any trial the killing means massacre. The sole reason is that being just part of Talibans (which literally means students) does not make you a killer. So if majority of the people in the West rejoice this news, i think West has a majority of barbarians who are as bad as the actual people who spread terrorism.

Of course it does not justify it. Both morally and pragmatically. And yes it does highlight the barbaric views of people. But ,to say concentrate on the Americans, they have no problems justifying it as they value US lives more highly than others. What is the life of some Afghan to them other than a source of fear of further attacks. You had political and religious leaders in the US calling for the area to be nuked. As it was they used fuel air explosives instead, a horrific weapon and a mate who was on the clean up crew on the Iraqi ‘highway of death’ still has nightmares about it to this day.
My comments attempt to be relevant to the post, if the post was about racism, murder, rape and media manipulation in the west I would cheerfully chime in on that. When I am in London my house is in one of the worse parts crime wise in the country. I’ve had individuals and gangs try to mug me multiple times. 4 cars have in the last 30 years been stolen from outside my mums house. Last year we got a letter from the police apoligising for the 4th straight year of increasing crime. I’m one of only two people from my year at primary school to go to University.
But you don’t need to say this when you talk about somewhere else. Are you seriously telling me if you wish to discuss something that happens in one country you have to also highlight every other similar occurance and areas of lawlessness in every other country in the world? You would like descriptions of government sponsered sectarian attacks in Northern ireland, european discrimination and ethnic cleansing of romani, female trafficing? How is any of that relevant to 6000 people being put through a living hell before death in Afghanistan?
But if you feel its all too one sided how about a post calling for debate about what is wrong with the west?

I think its a good idea Chris for having a post on the topic “Whats Wrong with The Wild Wild West?” Can you start this post and e mail it to us. We will publish it with your name. I would love to give my opinion on this topic.

I shall have a crack at this if time permits tomorrow (and if I fail at least I’ll never show my face again so its win/win :) ).

So having a go at this and I must say one recuring problem is how to define the west and its uniting factors. as you are outside it any clues? I can certainly outline some common problems and why it matters in regards to western countries, however it would be nice to have a more precise way of refering to them.

To me West is composed of people following just one same mentality. It also comprises of people who cant differentiate Pakistan from Afghanistan or pin point its location on map but still won’t hesitate to label them terrorists. Who won’t have any problems in calling all muslims as terrorists. I can go on but i think the purpose here is to give you a rough idea of who is West.
