LAHORE: Police officials tortured Geo T.V cameraman and seized his camera when he was shooting footages of police violence on lawyers amid long march, Geo News reported on Friday.
According to correspondent, Geo News received reports on lawyers’ arrests and police violence in Gawalmandi area following which, Geo News team arrived on the place and started shooting footages. Meanwhile, SHO Gwalmandi police station Iftikhar Rasool and his private bodyguards tortured cameraman and seized his camera at gunpoint.
SHO Iftikhar was transferred to Gwalmandi police station last night and has a bad record in past, he said adding, “He was transferred to Lahore as punishment.â€
Senior Superintendent Police Waseem Sial said the SHO Iftikhar has been dismissed on account of torturing Geo News cameraman but police have not registered case against him.
The government has finally came down to the level where all the dictators of Pakistan left. General Ayub Khan, General Zia and then General Musharraf were famous for enacting rules in the middle of the night by bypassing all legal means and they placed a total ban on media if it started speaking against their interest. We all know how different news channels were banned in the recent past when Musharraf was ruling the country. I am really sad to say that the so called democratic government of PPP has also started using such tactics to pressurize the media from reporting on the ongoing events in Pakistan. They have also requested their mentors sitting in the Washington and London to pressurize the opposition parties like Nawaz Sharif to back out of their demands for the restoration of independent judiciary. The main reason is that this will impact Pakistan efforts in “War on Terror”. Since PPP government is very well aware of the weaknesses of the American and its allies, it is using it as a mean to achieve its evil designs of silencing the opposition to its dictatorial regime.

Shame such a iconic figure like Iftikhar Muhammad Chuadhry-The Harvard Law School Medal of Freedom Winner-1 of the only 3 awards EVER given by Harvard Law. A man who can DEFEND AGAINST ALL ODDS, yes all odds the innocent and the weak surely deserves some recognition????
