The userbase of the Twitter is estimated to have grown by 33% last month and have crossed 10 million unique subscribers in the month of Feburary, 2009. The unique visitors from USA alone are estimated at around 8 million. With the current rate of growth, it can be safely estimated that Twitter userbase will cross 50 million by the end of the current year. The mark of 100 million will be achieved by Twitter in 2010.
According to Social Times founder Nick O Neil
“More realistically I’d estimate that the company will end up closer to 50 million users by the end of the year. Regardless, this is huge growth, mimicking some of the early growth experienced by Facebook which has skyrockets to over 175 million users. With all this growth, Twitter is bound to receive a few more acquisition offers by the end of the year despite the recession”
The analytics company Compete, the average Twitter user spends more than nine hours on the site per month, Compete said, and accesses 12.7 pages per visit.
Late last year, Twitter rejected a buy-out offer from Facebook, turning up its nose at the $500 million stock offer despite the fact that it had yet to develop a revenue-generating business model. Last month, Twitter raised $35 million in a third funding round.
