India Defeated in the First Round

by Owais Ehsan on December 29, 2008

While surfing through the net, i came upon this brilliant article written by Dan Qayyum on the site Ahmedquraishi.com on the present Pakistan India stand off.Â

Adm. Mike Mullen asked Pakistan for a guarantee that Pakistan Air Force will not respond to Indian surgical strikes. General Kayani is said to have responded with showing Mullen a photograph of an IAF Mirage-2000 locked by Pakistan Air Forces’ F-16 taken on December 13. ‘Next time, we’ll bring it down’, Mullen was told. To make sure the message was loud and clear, Pakistan Air Force jets started patrolling the skies in hot mode and a red-alert was issued throughout the country. The Indian war rhetoric has failed to impress Pakistan. Instead, the focus is now shifting to Indian intelligence agencies’ failure to put together credible evidence implicating Pakistan in the Mumbai attacks.

Â

It is best to win without fighting- Sun Tzu

With India and Pakistan standing eyeball to eyeball, it was India that blinked first, with its media and officials admitting defeat on the diplomatic front.

Times of India writes:

“While the de-escalation should soothe the tense nerves of the international community, it was being feared that Islamabad, by raising the bogey of war, may have edged out India’s concerns. By feeding fears of an imminent conflict between two nuclear-armed rivals, it had ensured that the focus would shift towards conflict prevention. Indian security experts noted that Gilani made it a point to mention that “our friends are persuading India against aggression”.

While the government persisted with reminders to Islamabad about unkept promises, independent security experts said Pakistan may have got away with almost no cost at all. “As of now, Pakistan has managed to divert attention from the Mumbai attacks to an India-Pak conflict,” said K Subrahmanyam.

It was diplomacy by fear, and Pakistan played it effectively. As it allowed passions to run high and let known terrorists join in the show of national belligerence, it was also playing victim. As part of the script, its foreign secretary, it now turns out, even summoned the Indian high commissioner in Islamabad, Satyabrata Pal, on Friday to lecture him on the need for India to bring down tensions.

The U.S. and China had on Friday asked India - in a clear sign of Pakistan’s success - to engage in a dialogue with Pakistan. It’s becoming increasingly evident that India has so far nothing to show for its diplomatic offensive in the aftermath of the Mumbai attacks.”

 How could things have gone so wrong, wonders Vir Sanghvi of the Hindustan Times:

 “I am now coming round to the view that they’ve only gone wrong for us. They’ve gone very right for Pakistan. Islamabad has got exactly what it needs, and what it always wanted.

Consider what’s happening today. The operation in the tribal areas has stalled. The Taliban have sworn to back the Pakistan army against India. Troops have been moved to the Indian border. The incoming Obama administration is talking about appointing a special envoy for India and Pakistan.

 And forget about acting against those who organized the Bombay attacks. Pakistan isn’t even willing to hand over Dawood Ibrahim or Masood Azhar [Editor: Not in Pakistani custody anyway]. Moreover, Washington seems largely content with this state of affairs.

I don’t want to sound like a pessimist or a warmonger — especially since I have always applauded New Delhi’s moderation and restraint — but it is beginning to seem to me that Pakistan has out-maneuvered both India and America.”

@Zaid Ahmad,
“.. what a stupid forum this has been? I love it more now.. ”
OK, that explains a lot then :)

7 Hindustani 12.29.08 at 4:33 pm

@Zaid Ahmad,
“Taliban the great has pledged support in favour of Paki Army which shows how capable is paki army that they cant fight on their own.”
Hmm, not sure what planet your understanding of this matter comes from, however, the support shown here is from Taliban, so not sure how you conclude that one from the Pakistan army side.
Anyhow, regardless, if you think that Pakistani army is not capable of fighting the hindu snakes, then how comes you havent been able to take over Pakistan since 1947 which is what the hindu racist parties have long wished for!!!
——————-
Truth of the matter is that indian govt and the army is totally incapable of controlling their own hindu terrorists that put pressure on govt to start threatening its neighbours, while being surrounded internally by its own retaliating minorities due to the pain inflicted on them by fundamentalist hindus and their racist govt.

8 Hindustani 12.29.08 at 4:43 pm

Adm. Mike Mullen must have asked Pakistan to not fire back at the hindu snakes probably because inida’s hindu fundamentalist govt must have begged him to do so.
—————–
“Can any country dare to talk to India like this … never.”
yes plenty, even within india itself, from North to South, East to West, plenty of indians spitting at your hindu fundamentalist govt. But as mentioned a few times, your terrorist country seems to choose to live in your bollywood dream world, instead of opening your eyes to the reality.

@A R Antulay,
“I watched one lollywood movie once and you wont believe heroine looked like a hero in that”
Wishful thinking there me thinks. That WAS the hero !!! :)
No worries, we accept that lolywood is bad with a smile :)
We know indians are better actors.
We know indian girls are better at pleasing us.
We know the indian fundamentalist govt is very good at creating drama, creating new Jihadis who drink alcohol, and use cocaine, only to averting attention from its own internal problems such as genocidal hindu fundamentalist parties.

10 Pakistan Loverrrr 12.29.08 at 9:22 pm

India didn’t present any evidence for Mumbai carnage only because it is going to be rejected, no matter how strong it is. GPS (tracking their path back to Karachi), Satelite phone, Phone conversations, mobile phone number of Lakhvi all lead back to Karachi, too bad…..
But it is only going to be met with Pakistan authorities rejecting it.
One day Nawaz Sherif said I have actually met Ajmal’s father in Faridkot and next day he says there is no evidence. One day Zardari says we have “non-state actors” in our country and next day says there is no evidence of Pakistani elements in attack. Furthermore, Geo Tv interviews Ajmal’s father and next day there is huge uproar against news channel for allegly publishing “”false”” story. There are lot of raids against Geo Tv, the only channel that i think publishes rightful information.

Instead of focusing on terror emanating from its soil, Pak has always focused on war on India. Despite UN naming Lakhvi, Dawood and many others as international terrorists, Pak has always closed its eyes on them. Media is powerful weapon to incite hatred against India, exactly the one being used right now.

he Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 was a major military conflict between India and Pakistan. The war is closely associated with the Bangladesh Liberation War (sometimes also referred to as the Pakistani Civil War). Although there is some disagreement about the exact dates of the war, hostilities between India and Pakistan commenced officially on the evening of December 3, 1971. The armed conflict on India’s western front during the period between 3 December 1971 and 16 December 1971 is called the “Indo-Pakistani War” by both the Bangladeshi and Indian armies. The war ended in the surrender of the Pakistani military after armed hostilities on two fronts.

I thought we were in the 5th round
1. 1948 - To India
2. 1965 - To India
3. 1971 - Almost a knockout and permenently disabled
4. 1999 - Another knockout
5. 2008 - in progress

13 Vairamuthu 12.31.08 at 6:46 am

Hi, I pray to god that India and Pakistan resolve the current issues and live in peace, but I would like to know from the Pakistani friends whether the Northern areas of Pakistan harbor militant groups like Laskar-e-Toiba or not?

14 Nandu Nanu 12.31.08 at 11:03 am

Elections- as per pakistani commonsense. the person who kills his wife for 10% commission by terrorists will be elected as president to rule a failed state.

15 Pakistani wants to be Hindustani 12.31.08 at 12:33 pm

Lets give them round one (more of beekh since they are so used to it)
Round two knockout by India, your Media, your US ambassador, your Army Chief have all accept Kasab is from Pak (for the unaware read todays paper). Kudos for Indian Intelligence for getting it right within 30 minutes of the incident (well I am being too lenient here the entire world knew it was Pak citizens from the first minute)

16 Nandu Nanu 12.31.08 at 2:09 pm

@muttu…whats wrong with you. “pakistani friends” why you are aiming for impossible. do you know what they teach young kids in pakistan- http://uropinion.sulekha.com/blog/post/2008/10/pakistani-textbooks-politics-of-prejudice-by-shareryar.htm
readi this and then ask your Pakistani FRIENDS the same questions. enough is enough

@Zaid Hamid,
“Elections- as per pakistani commonsense. the person who kills his wife for 10% commission by terrorists will be elected as president to rule a failed state.”
Not sure where you get your data from, let alone your common sense. He is not the president because he won the elections. Its because the party won the elections, and the party leader had the power to appoint the prime minister, and the president. In this case as you say correctly, the party leader was murdered for 10%, hence he became the party leader, and then the president which was going to be chosen by the party leader anyway. So much for “common sense”

18 Hindustani 01.03.09 at 1:17 am

@Zaid Hamid Enough,
While you point fingers at Pakistan for teaching its version of history, in California, US, the controversial edits for 6th grade history-social science textbooks proposed by two Hindu Nationalist Indian American groups, the Vedic Foundation (VF) and the Hindu Education Foundation (HEF) were challanged in court and were ordered to be taken out, as the children should be taught accurate info, not Hindu fundamentalist racist ideas.

@Zaids first intern (AKA “Elections- as per pakistani commonsense)
I will reply to the first post and the second post you have is absolutely useless. Making your point known by pasting links found via google you tube is just too artificial. I am sure every of your link can be replied by posting other links to counter.

One the first post, its good to know you actually how the democracy works in Pakistan (theoritically). But why have elections in Pakistan when the government would be bought down without completing the term. 60 years have gone by and not one single goverment has lasted its term. Instead of even spending money on elections dont you think it would be better in case you just have elections for the ISI and Army (internally of course) and they dictate who runs the country? It is faster, costs less and more efficient (atleast commercially).
PPP came to power with decent majority but in less than a year the Government is already is shabbles with citizens crying out, ISI thirsting for him to be removed and put you guys back under their control. Pakistan will never understand what democracy is until one government lasts the term. Did you expect Zardari (Mr.10%) to change everything within a year? Every change needs time let him last the five years and I am sure Pakistan will be in better shape. Musharaff bought about a change only because he had time on his side. Pakistan economy did better from 2000 onwards not because of Musharaff (catalyst he was) but because he had time. Be stable and the buisness men will grow improve the economy thats the mantra India has followed. Most politicians dont even know what economy and both sides have similar politicians. Stability will attract business and you cannot expect much from illiterate politicians.

Guys.. half of my posts are being moderated and remaining are being condemned.. very interesting…

Moderator Note: All words which have been described as racist and against Pakistan will not be allowed here and will be moderated

Anyways.. i want to ask pakisistani’s here what did they thought about the J&K elections recently.. i am pretty sure your unbiased media would not report it..
and also i want to remind that I as an Indian still think that mumbai attacks are planned and executed by pakistanis so dont deviate from terroism to other topics.. there are much better blogs to learn about economic development.. and I am not keen to understand what will zardari do even if he was given 5 years to rule without power…the reason why no govt in pakistan lasted for full term is because every election was manipulate which led to military rulers to take over.
Musharraf didn do anything for pakistan.. but al quaeda did. musharraf just asked whatever america asked him to do and then got grants/loans…look at world after 2000 and almost all the economies have developed untill the recent credit crunch. So pakistan havent achieved anything byt surviving on american money. I am pretty sure that Zardai will soon be kicked and kayani will take over and pakistan will be same.
bytheway why you guys made no comments on Nawaz sharif’s u-turn on azamal kasab’s nationality?

Hmmm…. u all make some valid points there r internal troubles v face, and yes democratic failure is one of them,,,,, military involvement in politics… a big one….. but at the end of the day when u have a hostile neighbour …. such as india 8 times the population ….n many times over in size economy….. its natural that…. our security paradigm will effect our insitutional matrix….

however, rest assured….. while v dont want war,…. n regardless of our internal trouble every pakistani…will stand side by side with the army the air force, the navy to protect the motherland……. pl read ….. betullah masood’s statement “vll stand behind pakistan… against india always!)…… so my dear…. u may have gotten us in 1971….i admit…. v failed…. n v def. should learn from our mistakes….. but who the **** said u guys have learnt anything from 47, 71, kashmir ur internal problems….. n ur BJP hawkish mentality………..

anyhow….if it comes to war i guess the outcome will show for itself…. i just promise Pakistanis are united when it comes to India…. despite all the troubles v face….(quoted above…exaggerated but some true)…..

for sake of the Muslims in india and innocent others hindus too….. and for those in pakistan i pray that v dont go to war……………..

As bhutto said ….”v might get annihilated as v r small” but v ll take u with us…… so….. dont **** with us…n get ur boys out of fata….;)

Just Imagine, the total population of India is arround 120 Crores and of pakistan only 14-Crores,if I have right statistics.Just compare the ratio.So Why India is afraid to Pakistan?Because pakistan is a passage to India from where the Rulers come and Rule all Over the India for Last hundreds of Years,I’m not Saying that India has NO Talent,Yes they have talent but they are more Inclined towards Music,Moaj & Massti,thats why they have Bolly-Wood Not Mumolly-Wood. It is History that India ruled by Outsiders,directly or Indirectly,the Native Indians ‘PurBhakaran’and associates are after Srilanka, they suppose to be after New Dehli but they learnt hard lesson after they Made Sonia Gandhi a “Bidwa”,die-hard,took revenge from Tetley Tigers.
Come to the point,who is governing India right now ? Sonia Gandhi(Italian Mafia),Manmohan Singh(punjabi shernartheri).where is AbdulSalam?Where is Native Hindustani?
India Wants to Block & wants to build barricade at Afghanistan ,to Stop the passage of Rulers.BUT HOW LONG.

23 Usman Hashmani 06.06.09 at 10:37 am

I realized that Mr.Muttu is quite sensible & looks much different then other average Indian and he wants to solve & discuss the issues in Gandhian-Way.Well,Mr.Muttu the fact is that India has Lot of wealth and she is accumlating it very fast on the other hand there is no balance & proper ditribution of money exists.so some regions of india are getting rich while others are getting poorer.Now what is happening in your society ,frustration,inequality.This is good omen of our Ex-Aqa.Christian Missioneries are flooding in India, once your people start protest then WEST pose a threat that pakistan is going to do this or that.so you should diffrentiate b/w ENEMY & your Neighbour.Are’nt we live together for hundred of years?
