Bhutto Coins: What on God’s holy land is next

One of the leading problems with us is there are far too many self-claimed martyrs. Martyrdom has literally become the most easily available death. No matter what one is been doing throughout their life doesn’t matter, if your killed voila a martyr!. We also suffer from the ‘Bhutto- Fever’ , quite volatile and fatal one.
When renaming Liaqat Bagh,Rawalpindi General Hospital,Nawabshah and Islamabad airport wasn’t enough we have on our hands our very own personalized ‘Bhutto coins’. The death anniversary has already been announced as a ‘Public Holiday’. The government has announced to launch Bhutto coins:

Pakistan’s central bank will issue a special Benazir Bhutto coin to mark the first anniversary of the former prime minister’s assassination in a suicide attack last year in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.
Some 300,000 commemorative ten rupee (nine pence) coins have been minted and will be issued on 27 December, the date of her death. On one side, the coin bears a portrait of Ms Bhutto, in her trademark headscarf. Inscribed under the image in Urdu is the phrase, “Daughter of the East, the honorable martyr Benazir Bhutto”.

This will be the first time in the country’s history that the currency will display a face other than of the Founder. The series of gestures will continue for the coming years. Its a pitty really how such meaningless steps are being taken by the state. This further goes on to demonstrate the state of ‘democracy’ in the country. If nothing else this new step surely assures a change for the local people, brace yourself  for the-all-so-new tag line for beggars:

ALLAH kay naam pay bhutto de day !

Yes, There are coins having The Great Allama Iqbal on them. But off course he deserves much more than that, after this step by current govt’s its gonna start a rat race for that following governments. They are gonna follow the same. STRONGLY OPPOSE THIS. :(

Yups coins with Iqbal were there but Iqbal is different then Bhutto. The Bhutto family just divided our country first for their personal power games and now we have Zardari as a gift from same family to destroy what is left of it.

(i previously was ‘to junaid’),i remember watching BBC and CNN when Benazir came down to Pakistan (during the marshall law period) etc. and I know how GAGA Pakistanis were at Ms. Bhutto, like as if she was Pakistans saviour. Almost all pakistanis were behind her cause of bringing meaningful democracy to pakistan. And I remember the day when Ms. Bhutto was assasinated how great the mourning was. it was worldwide headlines. the whole of pakistan was in grief. BBC and CNN were showing that same the whole day for over 2 weeks! And during elections, Benazir’s party won overwhelming victory, which was very much expected. had her party not got the support of pakistanis, she wouldnt have won. But now why are Pakistanis against her party? I read just yeaterday that 60-something percent of pakistanis now prefer Nawaz Sharif’s party as ruling coalition.

@ to sana: firstly whts with ‘to Sana’ ‘to Junaid’. Plus we all are grown ups here and should know by now that not everything the media shows is ‘real’. As far as Bhutto’s homecoming is concerned it was not exactly her support it was support for democracy. Her second homecoming was the same too, plus few thousands on the road doesn’t represent the entire country. Her party won most seats in her own province n not overall hence the coalition happened. Her death was mourned obviously even by her opposes because she was firstly a woman, mother and than a leader plus no country celebrates killings. Her party gained sympathy vote mostly. I dont know about the stats so I wunt comment on it. The point is we have and we always will support democracy in the country. Plus its Pakistan’s internal matter and internal politics one needs to be well aware of the history to be able to comment on it fullly. Eitherways thanks for visiting, and am sure r aware that good and evil exists everywhere.

Very poorly written article and amazed to see in on pro-pakistan. Some points for original author .

-not every other coin will be replaced with benazir one.
-she is joining the list with liaquat ali khan, madar-i-milat’s commemorative coins.
-a nation who forgets their leaders what one can expect from them altogether.

be an optimistic person or i should say pakistani.

in all fairness benazir was not anangel… she alongwith her husband was a very corrupt politician…she made houses everywhere…

@ Mastana

The article is not poorly written infact it gives out the perfect information and is very well organized. This author is one of the finest writers I have encountered if not the finest.

Secondly, BB was a corrupt politician, very corrupt so she was not a very great leader that one should respect, this is not a news flash. It is common sense that every coin in not being replaced on a Rs 10 will be added 300,000 in circulation.

She is not joining and list except the one with other corrupt politicians like Altaf Hussain, Nawaz Sharif and the rest. She is as corrupt if not more then the last one or the ones to come. Zardari is the cream on the ice cream.

A nation who forgets their leader ? What has she done for Paksitan, she has dont nothing except filling her own pocket.

Before you want us to be optimistic, here is an advice for you, be realistic =)
