General Amir Faisal Alavi Letter to General Kiyani

by Crackerpotato on December 15, 2008

Please find the letter by General Amir Faisal Alavi send to British journalist Carey Shoefield highlighting the fact that if he was killed, the following generals might be involved in his death. The letter was supposed to be published if the General Faisal is assassinated as he expected. I am sure its time we start thinking as to what exactly is happening in Pakistan?

As Time Online Story:

The brother-in-law of VS Naipaul, the British novelist and Nobel laureate, was murdered last month after threatening to expose Pakistani army generals who had made deals with Taliban militants.

Major-General Faisal Alavi, a former head of Pakistan’s special forces, whose sister Nadira is Lady Naipaul, named two generals in a letter to the head of the army. He warned that he would “furnish all relevant proof”.

Aware that he was risking his life, he gave a copy to me and asked me to publish it if he was killed. Soon afterwards he told me that he had received no reply.

“It hasn’t worked,” he said. “They’ll shoot me.” This weekend, as demands grew for a full investigation into Alavi’s murder on November 18, Lady Naipaul described her brother as “a soldier to his toes”. She said: “He was an honourable man and the world was a better place when he was in it.”

It was in Talkingfish, his favourite Islamabad restaurant, that the general handed me his letter two months ago. “Read this,” he said.

Alavi had been his usual flamboyant self until that moment, smoking half a dozen cigarettes as he rattled off jokes and gossip and fielded calls on two mobile phones.

Three years earlier this feted general, who was highly regarded by the SAS, had been mysteriously sacked as head of its Pakistani equivalent, the Special Services Group, for “conduct unbecoming”. The letter, addressed to General Ashfaq Kayani, the chief of army staff, was a final attempt to have his honour restored.

Alavi believed he had been forced out because he was openly critical of deals that senior generals had done with the Taliban. He disparaged them for their failure to fight the war on terror wholeheartedly and for allowing Taliban forces based in Pakistan to operate with impunity against British and other Nato troops across the border in Afghanistan.

Alavi, who had dual British and Pakistani nationality, named the generals he accused. He told Kayani that the men had cooked up a “mischievous and deceitful plot” to have him sacked because they knew he would expose them.

“The entire purpose of this plot by these general officers was to hide their own involvement in a matter they knew I was privy to,” he wrote. He wanted an inquiry, at which “I will furnish all relevant proof/ information, which is readily available with me”.

I folded up the letter and handed it back to him. “Don’t send it,” I said. He replied that he had known I would talk him out of it so he had sent it already. “But”, he added, “I want you to keep this and publish it if anything happens to me.”

I told him he was a fool to have sent the letter: it would force his enemies into a corner. He said he had to act and could not leave it any longer: “I want justice. And I want my honour restored. And you know what? I [don’t] give a damn what they do to me now. They did their worst three years ago.”

We agreed soon afterwards that it would be prudent for him to avoid mountain roads and driving late at night. He knew the letter might prove to be his death warrant.

Four days after I last saw him, I was in South Waziristan, a region bordering Afghanistan, to see a unit from the Punjab Regiment. It was early evening when I returned to divisional headquarters and switched on the television. It took me a moment to absorb the horror of the breaking news running across the screen: “Retired Major General Faisal Alavi and driver shot dead on way to work.” The reports blamed militants, although the gunmen used 9mm pistols, a standard army issue, and the killings were far more clinical than a normal militant attack.

It is yet another effort to mailgn Pakistan Army in a most kiddish manner. Alvi is dead but ask people who were close to him. ” Did he deserve to be on the coveted rank of Major General”. If not, then how he rose to this rank and plz do publish those opinions. Secondly he was not sacked because he was opposed to have agreements with Taliban but he was sacked due to other reasons. It will be really bad to narrate those as he is not amongst us. My request to all of u is not to show Pakistan Army as a villan and Alvi as a hero of some hollywood movie.

Well this is not going to have any impact on Pakistan Army or Government which is a proxy for ISI and Army… Its senseless to think that such exposure will evoke any response. Better to let the country fall under its own evil ..this is one more step to push them towards harakiri..I sympathise with the public of Pakistan who will eventually bear the brunt of misdeeds by its Army and Politicians, most of them will never understand and simply wonder..why???

Our Army is one of the most professional in the world…if all is true, then i am ashamed and hope action would be taken.

I am a reserve in the Army and i will tell you that we are a secular organization united by nationhood. We are all against the taleban and we are devastated by political developments and sinking economic conditions.

We hope for the best. And rest-assured, we are here to defend Pakistan and always work in favour of Pakistani interests –in good times and bad times.

Salaam.

Mr junaid
In regards to your comments ” Did he deserve to be on the coveted rank of Major General”.
I have seen various people writing the most absurd stuff online after the sunday times published that story . I told this on another forum too and i say this here too, My father may be dead but i am not dead so anyone dont dare to throw dirt on my father or his character . I am still here to defend him.Go and research my fathers military career and then come back and ask did he deserve to be a general or not? These ranks are merely worn as pointless medals in this life they donot signify a persons greatness or his lowness.MY father always said he was a soldier and a soldier foremost .
I am not here to offer explanations or excuses .I dont need symapthies or condolences i await the day of perfect justice. That is all i wait for.

Just a small clarification. The junaid who wrote the first comment is different then me who manages this blog as a blogger. Just for future reference of everyone.

Ms. Mehvish Alavi,

My deepest condolences on the death of your father. I admire his courage and valor both when he was in fatigues and when he decided to take on those he served with for the sake of truth and honor. Indeed the suspicious manner in which your Father was assasinated makes it amply clear that the corrupt of this land will never let anyone expose them.

To the ignorant few who still believe that the army is some “sacred cow” which can not do any wrong or can not be criticized i say down with such bigoted patriotism. Whenever someone like Late Gen Alavi muster the courage to spill the beans on the villians in our midst a tragedy befalls them or their family.

I pray for your and your family’s saftey.

Maj Gen Alvi was the honest and gallantry officer of pakistan army, my father served with him in Khariayan and i know him personally. He was loyal to the soil and a true commando. I am talking about his professional life and do not want to comment on his letter. Gen Alvi, Army can not forget your supreme sacrifice for Pakistan, You are in our prayers and may jannat becomes your destiny.

Ms Mehvish…

I was reading a blog on the Let us Build Pakistan website when I came across the news of the Death of Your Father.

Shock is not a word to describe what I feel.

Horror and an all encompassing despair are more appropriate. His Death has brought to the full fore, the cancer ailing our country. It will devour all. I am a common Pakistani, who is seeing his country fall apart.

Your Father’s Death simply puts into perspective the fact that no one is safe anymore, here. He had the courage and the integrity to speak the truth and that is the very reason he was silenced. It does not matter what rank he had. He was a true hero, for he made the ultimate sacrifice, for being honest.

Rest assured that justice will be done, sooner or later and the people responsible will pay..

Our land is not the land of the pure, it is the land of the lawless…..

I hope and pray that you and your family will be safe..

I just wanted everyone to know that my father’s killers have been caught finally . The whole net of intrigue and conspiracy woven by the British journalist was indeed all fake . I do admit , at first , even i was led a little astray by Miss Carey Schofield .
I contacted her asking a copy of the letter. She agreed but then refused . I asked her was there any witness present when my dad gave her the letter she named a person but when he was contacted he denied any letter being given to her by my father. Also the letter mentioned not even a word of Taliban or Baitullah Mehsud . No SAS officer has been quoted . Whatever has been said has been said by her .
I am happy my father’s name and the Pakistan Army’s name has been cleared .

Hi Mehvish,
We are glad that the perpetrators of this great crime are finally caught. I would request you to publish or present your views in the mainstream media, so that the general public comes to know the truth. Besides, the lies of hypocrites like Miss Carey Schofield and others who are out there to malign ISI and Pakistan Armed forces are revealed to the World.

We at Pro-Pakistan would offer you all help in spreading the truth about the death of your father. If you want to write any article or statement you are most welcome to use Pro-Pakistan as your platform.

You, your father and your family have paid the supreme sacrifice.

We would forever be in your debt.

@ mehvish zahra alavi
the news of ‘Major General Amir Faisal Alvi’ shaheed in a renown online news paper drew attention and i read some information about the shaheed general in few blogs written by her daughter. what i’ve noticed a army man (i.e. maj. (r) haroon ashiq) was involved in the plot of killing another army man (i.e. maj. gen. amir faisal alvi) which is such a shameful act!

since the war waged by western nation with the help of traitor at that time, since then we have suffered a lot, many fathers, mothers, daughters sons and innocents lost their lives; god bless souls all of them and keep in heaven, ameen.

the islamization became a menace for us, in the past we never saw such barbaric acts that we are witnessing these days, muslim killing another muslim ‘in the name of god and islam!’, i’m against the killing whatsoever. leaders of our nation are cowards and dollars hungry, begging nation to nation like a street beggar, what a pity!

i think we have to wait for the day of judgment when everyone will be accountable for his/her deeds, actions and will get what he/she has done.

i don’t want to condole with her or to be sympathetic because her father is martyred and alive, instead, i want to congratulate this brave family because their father is awarded with such a crown by god, the martyrdom, that every other can only wish.

17 mehvish alavi 05.18.09 at 10:51 am

@ Thank you Silver Hawk . it really is the only thing that keeps our family from falling apart …. that my father is a Shaheed . he may not present with us physically but he is here. My father was bleeding still 3 days after he was martyred and he had a lovely smile on his face…. it truly is the only thing brought us great comfort …

Pakistan
Lashkar-i-Taiba deny involvement in Gen Alvi Killing RAWALPINDI: A charge-sheet submitted by police in an anti-terrorism court says that a banned religious outfit assassinated former commander of Special Services Group Gen Aamir Faisal Alvi to avenge the role he played in the fight against militants in Fata.

According to the charge-sheet prepared by Islamabad’s Koral police against Major (retd) Haroon Ashiq, a resident of Azad Kashmir; Mohammad Nawaz Khan, of Peshawar; and Ashfaq Ahmed, of Okara, the murder was ordered by Ilyas Kashmiri who provided funds and weapons.

ATC-II Judge Sakhi Mohammad Kahot was to formally indict the accused on Tuesday, but he adjourned the hearing till May 23 because of lawyers’ strike.

During interrogation in a kidnapping for ransom case, the accused told police they had been ordered to kill Gen Alvi, who had spearheaded a commando operation against militants at Angor Adda in South Waziristan in 2004 when a large number of Arabs, Uzbeks, Chechens, Afghans and local Taliban were killed.

The three were arrested by industrial area police for trying to kidnap a businessman.

Police said the alleged killers, who belonged to the banned Lashkar-i-Taiba, followed the general when he left his residence in Bharia Town on the day of the attack for his private office in Islamabad and killed him and his driver near PWD Colony.

Police said the accused were given money and weapons for the attack by Ilyas Kashmiri and Irfan, another man working for the militants. The three men were also involved in many cases of murder and kidnapping for ransom.

In another development, the Lahore police obtained legal custody of Maj (retd) Haroon Ashiq and Mohammad Nawaz Khan to interrogate them in a case relating to the murder of Dr Abdul Saboor Malik of Sheikh Zayed Hospital, who was killed in Model Town on January 16 this year.

Need to look at lady Nadira Naipaul article in Mail on Sunday Newspaper about General Alvi murder. Our Nadira is up to her old tricks saying she was like a twin to herbrother , though he broke contact after her second divorce because of her style of life. He was discgraced by her many affairs and shamed by all her scandals. She always abused his wife and children .
I know him since thirty years, good officer but hot headed and never discreet. But Nadiras life is built on exploitation and betraying people and now she is at it again.

23 V. Khan 09.20.09 at 6:06 pm

Ariticle in british Daily Mail is a joke. In it she talks about Mothers heart. What mothers heart? Here is a woman who abandoned two baby daughters of her first marriage and then the two children of her next. She may pull the wool over evryones eyes in england but we all know about her in Pakistan. Using her brothers name to make herself look better. She is a very bad woman who had many affairs. Nadira Naipaul is no lady.
