I am sure after this blog, i might be labelled as sexist and biased but i am going to make public my opinion on this issue. I will write what i experienced and hence you are open to counter it. Few days back i was crossing the Kulsoom Plaza (Mobilink House) overhead on 7th Avenue in Blue area Islamabad and i noted that one Islamanad Traffic Police (ITP) officer was directing all the traffic on the first signal, which was off. As soon as he ordered us to move, we came across the second signal which was also off as usual but there was no traffic police officers standing on it and i barely missed getting rammed into another car coming from the opposite direction. I was about to start cursing the police for having any officer on the second traffic light when two ladies standing in traffic police uniforms on the side of the road caught my eyes. As usual they were very busy discussing some new trends in the market or the bad behaviour of the male gender with them. Since i was a bit angry, i waived to them to stand at the road and perform their duties instead of being too “sharmeeli” and standing on the side of the road letting the mother nature drive the system. Now the problem don’t ends here, it might be only my bad experiences but i have not yet noted a single lady traffic police officers directing traffic or performing her duties just like her male counterparts. Majority of them are either too shy or might not get proper response so they tend to shy away from the active duty. As far as flying air-crafts is concerned, i have to risk my tax paid money on them but when it comes to operational duties, i find it difficult as to how the women can perform in it. I am not saying that physically it might be difficult but it is not possible in the overall context of our society. Giving them an opportunity to work in such areas just create unequal treatment because i don’t think that the ladies from the first batch of rangers will be deployed on the border areas to patrol it. The same goes for women officers inducted in Pakistan Army. I wonder will they be also posted into Siachen and Bajaur just like their male colleagues or they will also get preferential treatment when it comes to performing their duties just because of their gender. I have also been a critic of the fact that our country offer permanent seats to women in our national assembly on quota basis. If we talk about gender equality, then let the free competition decide what the people want to choose? Let Sherry Rehman fight an election to justify her seat rather then just because her party male members won certain number of seats and hence she will get her seat as bonus pack. That is not fair at all. Technically and by laws, it is possible in our assembly that women can occupy all seats and make the assembly a women only place but its not possible for male so who is getting discriminated here? Even we have female only universities but nothing like “Male only Universities”. Anyways, the list goes on and on and on! I am not asking for any change in the current scenario but i am against the very people who try to sound feminism all the time. The above steps taken by our enlightened ex President were surely to prove his credential to the Americans as a moderate person and are not in line with our cultural realities and that is why i disagree with them.

I totally agree with you on this. I was very critical of women being inducted as fighter pilots in the PAF, and now the Pak Army and the Rangers too. Forget how people will treat you, the brought up of women here in our society renders them incapable of surviving in tough situations such as war etc… Women are made tough, but not for traffic control or war etc. Also, getting into such fields leave their core areas vacant, which i suppose not many of the men would want to occupy. So I guess we should keep to the ways that mother nature has created for us and not go fr things that are not meant for us just for the sake of it. We still wont be called a modern and enlightened state coz we still have that ‘terrorist’ and ‘extremist’ thing attached to us!
Can’t agree more. I think its time that we should start focusing on our values without bothering about the so called “Image” because In my view there is only one possibility—either we will survive or our “Good Image”—-Choice is in our hands.
lol I was going to make a post on the same issue and saw this!. U arent being sexist because I share the same opinion being a woman. Most importantly may it be a woman or man we dont need additional people specially when the rights of the former have still not even been chalked out.The rangers and police remain underpaid lacking facilities of day to day life hence rising corruption! sigh!
oh thanks God two ladies also supported me on this issue otherwise i was expecting a hail of accusations after writing this post! :P
Siachen? that’s not currently a part of pakistan bhai. we don’t post officers there. only india does. our LoC ends at the valley below siachen.
@Hju! Seems you have your own boundaries. Will you be kind enough to share its maps with us for the larger interest of the society!
I think it’s time everyone woke up! This is more than 50% of your population you’re talking about, either you can keep them at home making roties or use them for the betterment of the country, society and family unit. I agree they might not be at par with their male colleagues as yet but please given the 60+ years of handicap since the inception of this country and God only know for how long before that, I’d laud them for a steady start. Stop complaining and start supporting! And honestly, men don’t seem to be doing a very brilliant job of whats happening in the country so far anyway, perhaps women might just pleasantly surprise you. Think beyond the box or you’ll remain a fundamentalist third world country forever!
Rightly said Sidra and no one here is asking for the deprivation of women. You have to open up your mind to the criticism. The two girls who supported me here are very much working and doing the very best in their fields and i very much think that they should be working but what i meant is that everything is not a business of everyone else.
It is simple thing. You change the roles and you will end up with even more disastrous situation. Attributing the under development in Pakistan to the rule of men is totally wrong. Let me tell you that Pakistan is one of the first country to have women prime minister but did she change anything? The problem is that our women has to understand where they can make a difference. Just jumping into everything for the sake of showing that women can do everything is wrong. That is the reason asexual birth is not possible in human beings and that is why God created two different species instead of making just one.
Lastly, can you define fundamentalism for me or what is fundamentalist attitude in Islam?

I must appreciate bubs of Five Rupees blogs for giving such an importance to my above blog posting that he felt compelled to write another blog to comment on it.
Anyways, i wish he had written something quantitative to prove my arguments wrong instead of making personal comments. Anyways, speaks volumes of what people learn in the clown of liberalism.
Lastly, i am still looking for a more civilized argument from his side.
