Welcome Ramadan 2008

This is to wish a very happy Ramadan to everyone, the month of obedience and submission to Allah SWT. Ramadan, as always is to bring more patience and submission this year, along with more requests for mercy. Though Ramadan is not the only prescribed month for Ibadaats, but the level of reward and opportnities of forgiveness of sins are way too high, so an attempt to avail the opportunity truly rewards the believers.

I was just exploring the web regarding Ramadan 2008, and have found amazingly interesting resources, full of knowledge, so just thought to share a few. Here it goes:

Mustafa Al-Rafi’ie, a leading Arab writer who lived in the early part of the twentieth century describes the month of Ramadan as a 30-day school. It is a very apt description because our fasting month is indeed a highly advanced school with an annual course lasting 30 days. It is a practical course, which equips the participants for their very important task and provides them with the necessary training to overcome the difficulties that lie ahead. The Philosophy And Benefits Of Fasting In Ramadan

One who, while fasting, neither guards his tongue from telling lies nor refrains from doing bad deeds does not respect his fast, while Allah does not approve of mere abstention from food… When you fast, you should not speak ill of anybody, nor should you be boisterous or noisy. If anybody speaks ill of you or tries to pick a quarrel with you, do not respond to him in the same manner; rather, simply tell him that you are fasting. Benefits Of Fasting

During the month of Ramadan, paradise doors are opened, hell doors are closed and satans are chained. So, by observing fasting, a devout Muslim is offered a golden opportunity to reap worldly and divine rewards through self-control, devotion to Allah and spiritual self-reflection. A Muslim can practice self-control over the body and its carnal desires through communal praying, doing good deeds, reading the Qur’an, exercising patience and moderation, sympathizing with the less fortunate, strengthening family ties and supplication to Allah. Although these practices should not be exclusively limited to the month of Ramadan, the rewards are doubled. They are religious and spiritual values that should be an integral part of one’s life. The Holy Month Of Mercy And Forgiveness

A great deal has been written about the medical and health benefits of fasting; both by Muslim and non-Muslim scientists. These benefits include the elimination of harmful fatty substances from the blood stream, helping the cure of certain types of intestinal and stomach ailments and the renewal of body tissues. Needless to say that some ailments may be aggravated by fasting in which case the person is exempted from fasting. For those who may be engaged in Islamicially (and medically) undesirable habits such as over-eating or smoking, the self-control and discipline exercised in Ramadan provide an excellent way to “kick” these bad habits. In a sense, fasting is an annual physical overhaul of the body. The Essence Of Ramadan: Physical & Medical Elements
