Asif banned for two years

by Sana Saleem on August 20, 2008

No not the zardari asif  *o how we wish* , Pakistani Fast bowler Muhammad Asif faces a 2 year banned after the tests results came positive . Asif was initially detained in dubai when a banned substance was recovered from his wallet . Responding to the custom officers Questioning Asif threw a supposed tantrum , disgracing both himself and the Pakistani Cricket board. He has since denied any use of banned substances .

The matter would have been a lot more graceful if Asif would have been mature enough to accept his mistakes. Now that the test results are out he has no where to hide . It is a shameful incident for a sportsmen.Intake of banned substances not only challenges the sportsman’s stamina but also his ability sporting skills. The intake of banned substances however has increased over time . Now with stricter laws and much more specific tests it has become almost impossible for a banned substance to be used and not discovered. In the light of all this I think its time for our sport ministries to take matters seriously . Ethical community for players is essential . Guidelines should be provided and players should be groomed to abide by rules. International sportsmen act as ambassadors to the nation and that is why it is very essential to have a code of conduct . I hope that constructive steps are taken to avoid such incidents to repeat in the near future.
