I was invited for a dinner by my colleague who is a British born Pakistani. An Indian Muslim doctor was also a guest. As per usual the conversation trickled towards what was happening in Pakistan . The Indian doctor said something which made me feel very little. He said: ‘When the leaders of a country start buying properties outside the country and their children get educated and stay abroad then the people of the country should know that there is something seriously wrong with the country which the leaders know but are not telling the people of the country.’ He continued, ‘In India, it is unheard of that even the most corrupt leader has acquired any property abroad. Even mega stars like Amitabh and Shah Rukh Khan, sportsmen like Gavasker and Dhoni, singers like Lata and Asha do not have any properties or businesses outside India . You, Pakistanis, should really and seriously start asking your leadership - WHAT IS IT ABOUT PAKISTAN THAT THEY KNOW AND YOU, THE PEOPLE, DON`T? Why do they live abroad while doing politics in Pakistan? ‘ While he was saying this, I was thinking of Zardari coming to meet Nawaz in his hotel in Dubai driving his Rolls Royce deciding the fate of 170 million Pakistanis and then planning to fly to London to meet another Pakistani leader living in London and leading the most literate Pakistanis from there. Most of the children of these people including the President of Pakistan live in Europe, USA and Dubai with properties across the globe… There is something that these leaders of our`s know about Pakistan which we don’t !!! I’m was a Pakistani Christian. After finding it difficult to fit in (seriously, this the fate of all non Muslim Pakistanis), I migrated to Fort Worth, TX. There, I met a fellow Pakistani and he’s indirectly related to Afzal Tahir (Pakistan’s Navy tog gun). He too lives in Texas (Austin), but used to come down to FW occasionally and we used to meet up in a local bar. It’s really scary what Pakistan’s heading to from his description. without going into detail, and in short, the guy (name kept away) adviced me to move all assets out of Pakistan and never return
Seriously, he’s a nice guy who’s extremely moderate in his thoughts and who’s always said that he’d love Pakistan to be multicultural rather than being Islamic. He’s also ery sincere, and I’ve known him for almost 4 years. It’s quite unlikely that he’s crapping. (in fact he gives this same advice to all other Pakistanis (Muslims) who he meets). That’s why all our politicians, commanders and stars have more property abroad than at home.
I did take his advice seriously. I wanted to send my children to Pakistan for 2 years for them to learn up their culture (our native village in Multan has 90% Christians; and my mother in-law’s there). It’s shelved and I’m gonna send my 2 children for studies to Pondichery, India where I feel they can learn up their culture which they’ve missed out all while. I’ve sold my properties (all in Multan) in 2006 feeling untide about what he said.
You may brand me as a Christian traitor or pro Indian or even an acting Indian or whatever. But my advice to you too is the same. I don’t differentiate between religion. The fact is we’re all Pakistanis. Jesus save the land.

your one of those Indian who spend the entire day posting your properganda, when the leading bishop of the Church in paksitan says Christian pakistanis are ready to fight for pakistan after india said it may ‘attack ‘ pakistan, i know that all pakistanis regardless of religion are patriotic and will fight for paksitan so you can go to india and i look forward to BJP/RSS alliance burning you child
If it gives you a any consolence, pretty much all Bollywood stars own properties outside India. SRK has a huge mansion in Dubai. Akshay Kumar has property in Canada. Anil Kapoor in UK. Amitabh Bachchan in Switzerland. Our political leaders send most of their kids abroad for education. However they retain one or two kid in India so that they are take up the family business (which is politics) after them. For good or bad, our politicians treat each other as political opponests and not enemies. While this makes for good economy, what it also means that there is a hidden agreement that no politician will seriously go after his political opponest’s ill-gotten wealth - although they might make some political noise about it. From the Congress to BJP to Communists to Muslim political parties - their leaders started from a humble family but today own lot of wealth. Having said all this, I would also say that there are lot of people who go back after spending 10-15 yrs in west. There is enough security and opportunity for regular emmigrants to return back. While the situation in India is not like what is portrayed in blockbuster bollywood movies (typically starring SRK), it is more like the new-age movies from bollywood.
