Can a woman refuse prostitution ?

by Sana Saleem on June 28, 2008

I am in mourning today , mourning yet another scar from the ‘chaotic shift’ in the society. The gifts of vulgarism camouflaged under the tags of so-called modernism . I usually avoid watching the plethora of news channels, but this news indeed was unavoidable.

‘ A man threw acid on his wife burning her eyes and face and body , because he was drunk and forced her to sell herself to earn a bit of cash, preferably needing money to drink more’

.

This is exactly what a woman deserves if she chooses to maintain her chastity in this flesh hungry society. The man may as well get arrested and he might face severe penalties but the questions remain , will this refrain other men to do the same? . How will she continue her life now ? What is her future?. How many of such women will die and be burned in the name of honor and disgrace?. I am not much of a feminist , although I do believe in equality on humanitarian grounds. How many women are going to suffer either at the hands  of ‘IZAT’ (pride) or ‘HAWAS’ (desire). It is not only about the rights of women it is about being Human . It is about knowing and acknowledging that everyone has the right to co-exist with peace . It is about knowing that such barbaric attempts for pleasure will not be tolerated . I DEMAND PUBLIC EXECUTIONS OF SUCH BARBIC ACTS , RAPE INCLUDED. I may sound inhumane but where is humanity anyway?

It is a really sad! These men should be brought out in public and punished for their acts so that no other person can dare to commit such acts. It is incidents like these that prove to me the importance of Islamic mode of punishment, where the culprits of such acts are punished in public.
I really appreciate Sana that you highlighted this incident and brought it to the attention of our readers.

Sana, thanks for the post and indeed its horrific. The irony is that our nation has gone accustomed to such incidents/news. We all feel sorry for a while and then we just move on.
The problem here is that even if someone is punished harshely it still wont achieve its goal cos the people who are punishers i.e govt is again full of courruption so people have no faith in them. Anyway I hope he does get some jail time, if we are lucky.

Btw does anyone know what happened to the culprits of Mukhtar Mai case?
