Food Supply by Choppers to Kurram Agency

by MJK on June 24, 2008

The run to Kurram Agency from Peshawar runs through Kohat, Hangu, Tall and Sadda before entering Parachinar. There are two sects people living on the route and till this date, there were small clashes between the two but the fighting never spread to an extent, which we are witnessing these day. You may blame the civilian government for not paying any attention to the situation of the province or you may call it the new policy of army to remain on back foot to improve its image in the minds of the civilian society, but who are ultimately suffering are the local people.

We all have heard that Berlin received supplies by air for a long time becuase of the siege by the Russian armies but we never heard that inside Pakistan, one sector has laid siege to the whole city and that for months. I wonder why The News or Dawn didn’t term it a front line story that our government has confessed its failture in tackling the situation and has ordered the food to be delievered by Choppers to the people in siege. Is our govenment that impotent that it can’t deal with just one particular group? Or we will now blame India for our own problems? I wonder why are we then spending $ 3 - 4 billion on our military forces if we can not liberate our own city from few militant groups? The day light attack by Baithullah Masud yesterday on the city of Jandola and on the supporters of government highlight the fact that our government abandon its allies and hence the day is not far away when it will find it self short of any true allies in the region.

I have always been advocating the theory of equilibrium in the tribal areas of our country. The best way to deal these lands is to keep two parties that are equal in force and hence will resist fighting each other. If one groups becomes too powerful, it will all together eliminate the other group and once there is one powerful group in these areas, i am sure they will not rest untill they are dead. Moreover, government should establish a peace but not at the cost of showing itself as weak to the militants. Once peace has been established, government should shower the aid it receieves from America on the region and try to eliminate poverty and educate people so that when the ceasefire expires, the people themselves throw out the militants by not cooperating with them.

Without proper strategy, i am sure the day is not far away when the same militants will spread their influence to Peshawar and later on threaten Islamabad.

Such type of activites are done to provoke Iran’s passion & drag her in unneccesary war same like we witnessed in past with Iraq.
