Fighting in Khyber and Orakzai Agency
|
The recent spate of violence in the Khyber and Orakzai agency has sectarian nature but has the involvement of the same people, who are behind most of the violence in the province. One party is generally the Taliban or related parties while the other are minority sects. What is shocking is the role of government in all this fighting. The government as well as the political agencies are totally quiet in all the episode and allowing the powerful groups to kill their opponents with total impurnity. The long term affect of this crises will be a totally strong local Taliban or related groups who will then threaten the government directly and then government will be left with no choice but to agree to their terms or surrender the provincial capital Peshawar. We have witnessed the attitude of these groups towards the minorities in the province and hence we should know how they will govern our province once they are in total control. This is high time for the government to intervene with full force and to stop these illegal warlords from gaining too much power in their local bastions. Till the time they don’t completeley capture their local areas, they will never dare to look at Peshawar but if they are allowed to become supreme power in their own native agencies, there will be nothing to stop them from coming to Peshawar. The situation in South Waziristan and North Waziristan was similiar in the beginning and even there government kept out of the situation until the point, when they started their movement towards the settled areas. The recent incident of kidnapping of Christians in Peshawar is a case in point that shows how openly these groups can enter the settled areas. I won’t be surprised if some day they attack Peshawar airport and take away few planes or blow our air force planes stationed there. I think Mr. Zardari should stop playing his dirty games and instead of donating blood, stop the spilling of blood of the innocents people in the name of religion or sects.
