Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the new 3G version of Applie iPhone yesterday at a ceremony. The launch of new 3G iPhone coincides with the date last year when the first iPhone was launched. For the Pakistani crowd, who have yet to officially get hold of any iPhone are using the unlocked version for quiet some time now and you can find them in many pockets across the country. The iPhone was selling at a premium rate of Rs36000 at many places and online shops like MyShop etc. The most interesting feature of the new iPhone is its faster speed to browse and low price compared to the their previous version. The phone will be launched in 22 countries on 11th of July and will reach our Pakistani market in a week time as witnessed from our previous experiences. I think it will cost around Rs. 20,000 in Pakistan for the 8GB version while it will cost around Rs. 27,000 for the 16GB version. With this new price tag, am sure it will be a big hit in both international and Pakistani market. There are not much features beside the 3G and built in support for GPS navigation. From what i found that Apple is now going into the game of volume and market penetration as already they have sold 6 million copies of the orignal iPhone and targets to cross 10 million mark by the end of 2008. I predict that they will safely cross the 10 million mark till October or November 2008.

I am confused with the I phone rate in pakistan on the web sit they give us a rate when I went to purchase the Iphone Mobile in the local market the rate was not same as mentioned in the web they were charging 50% high then and price given in the web site so please tell me what is actual price of Iphone 8GB and 16GB in Pk Ruppe. And from where I can get the Iphone mobile in pakistan and who is the dealer,warranty time period and from where we clame the warranty.

first of all iphone 3g will not come in pakistan and other thing if it comes it will cost more than thirty thousand bcoz of taxes used to import of it.
Ali there is just one tax on import of mobiles and that is 500 flat on all mobiles, which has been introduced in this budget. Secondly, iPhone is still available in our local market even though it has never been officially released in Pakistan. Even the Apple store in Pakistan don’t sell it but even they know iPhone is abundantly available in our market.
We all know that you can get anything here in Pakistan :P

SingTel also owns 30% of Warid Telecom now. It makes pretty reasonable sense for SingTel to push iPhone distribution in Pakistan and even Bangladesh via Warid as well, since for a hardware product like the iPhone and aggressive vendors like Apple, the margins for SingTel would depend so much on scale.
That doesn’t close the market for others - e.g. Vodacom is also using its massive global footprint to plan distribution in India alongside SingTel.
That theoretically leaves Orascom Telecom, Telenor, and China Mobile still in the game… but again it wouldnt make sense for any of these to make iphone distribution deals just for the Pakistani market (sorry.. not scale enough for the Apple beast). So they are likely to only enter if their global footprint is interested.
Orascom Telecom? Hmm.. probably not so much right away. Telenor? Already lost some key markets to Vodacom. China Mobile? Hmm… controversial economics may make Apple think twice about jumping in right away.
So that comes back to Warid being the most likely company to start iPhone distribution in Pakistan, or atleast do it with the highest margins anyway.
I would like to know that whether in Pakistan we will need to unlock iphone 3g or simply insert a sim in phone will solve our problem.
Faridullah there is now an official Apple Store in Pakistan in collaboration with Raffles Group. Since Apple has not officially launched the current version of iPhone, that is why we have to unlock them.
Now since the upcoming 3G iPhone is being marketed by iPhone for the mass market, therefore, i strongly believe that they will launch it in as many countries as possible. They might deal with any local GSM operator to give their iPhone with their package. In that case it will be again operator specific.
Anyways, in neither of the above scenarios, we always have the option of unlocking it ourselves.
i would like to say that telenor is soon launching its persona package with iphone for the Corporate users, and about warid i dont think so But telenor is coming this august right way with iphone with slogan technology on the moove

Iphone 3G will sold @ 200$ only with AT&T contract because they got the rights..
some other telecom are trying to get the subsidiary contract for selling the iphone with their own connections but in pakistan none of any telecom service providers are doing this thats why in pakistan iphone will cost much more than America and european countries.

Apparently all of you are mistaken. AT&T has purchased the iPhone from Apple upfront for cash. Meaning that if you sign with AT&T they will give you a subsidized handset. Unlocked handsets will most probably be +$1000 USD.
As far as i’m concerned, if the iphone 3g 8gb is of about $199 in other countries, so in Pakistan the price will be Inshallah Rs25000/-

yes, it can be unlocked there are number of ways to unlock and activate it. i have unlocked all previous version of iphone and upgraded now my iphone to 2.0. All i need is an iphone 3G. I fully prepared with all my tools but unfortunately i dont have the phone right now. i’m ready to spend some 40K for it.

well here in UK there is no unlock version of Iphone 3G available offically. I could be done but don’t know if any one is doing it or not.

Iphone 3g has not yet been launched in pakistan officially as per http://www.istore.com.pk in some palces you can get iphone for around rs.40000 to 50000 or near and NO USE OF BUYING from pak or abroad as it not officially launched in pak iphone has a non rechangeable battery and if battery is dead the phone can be exchanged for a new one not replaced only APPLE AUTHORIZED DEALERS can do it as per its policy to provide new iphones if the batteries of old iphone gets expired so wait until it is officially launched even i thought to order it from abroad but didnt because of this reason.

Well i think apple should be the product of the century. It has changed the concept of mobiles and many companies tried copying it but failed and not even one has managed to compete with it. Nokia has come up with N97 which is nice but i do not think that its better than iphone. Well i am just waiting for NOKIA AEON ( http://www.domesticutilities.com/aeon.htm ) and i think this phone might be the best phone of the future.
Other than that apple is going to launch their TABLET PC ( http://www.domesticutilities.com/apple.htm ) next month and i think they are going to make bare money out of it as well.
