Google Android Powered Phone - First Glimpses
|
Google gave the first glimpse of Android powered phone in a Developers Conference where a crowd of over 3000 software developers were present. The Google Android Phone seemed much like the enhanced version of iPhone and since iPhone is also planning to come up with open source software, i don’t think Google will be able to capitalize this thing. The Google Initiative to build an open source mobile platform for developers is what will bring the real change in the industry. One thing that is certain now is that the mobile phones will never be the same after the full release of Google Android Phone because the open source software will change the whole dynamics of the industry. Even the concept of introducing advertisements into the mobile will also bring down the potential princes of different products and provide the much needed steam to the mobile software development industry. SAN FRANCISCO – Google kicked off its Google I/O developer’s conference here with an update on several of its Web-related initiatives and a flashy demo of its Android software for mobile devices.A prototype phone from an unnamed manufacturer was shown running Android software during the keynote. The device featured a touch screen display and a startup screen full of colorful icons for launching programs and Web services, such as Gmail, with the touch of a finger.A quick flick of the finger from a status bar brings up pending actions such as an imminent appointment or unread e-mail. It’s nice to see companies like google tapping into the telecommunications market, bring s a tougher competition, and a wide range of choices for the end users/consumers.
On the other hand, Apple Inc. is not planning to bring out an open source version of the their proprietary software that the iPhone uses, instead they released the SDK (Software developers kit), this usually gives developers alot of space to build their application on top of iPhone’s operating system, but it’s more or less limited in a way that you will still not be able to work to the roots of the system, but in Google android’s case, the developers will have enough freedom to work on top and under the hood of the operating system.
I m hoping to see some good competition and a low cost cellphone for all, and not at all limited by carriers
Exactly! Competition between giants mostly benefits the consumers and speed up the innovation process.
