Wi-TribeThe Broadband Revolution is here in Pakistan as more and more companies are entering the market in this area. Pakistan is also the first country in the world where a full nation wide WiMAX deployment took place by Wateen Telecom. Recently LinkdotNet, a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom of Egypt also started its operations and intend to start its WiMAX services beside its DSL broadband.

Wateen TelecomLast sunday when i was going through the newspaper, i came across a job posting by Wi-Tribe and the type of jobs posted made me realize that the company is from telecom sector. I checked its website and was amazed to find out that Wi-Tribe is a WiMAX operator jointly owned by Qatar Telecom and ATTCO group in partnership with Clearwire. All the three names are very strong players and hence am sure Wi-Tribe will have a very professional setup. Wi-Tribe is already operating in Jordan and LinkdotnetPakistan will be their second international venture. More details about Wi-Tribe can be found on their website by clicking here. Their Pakistan specific website is still under construction.

so we are going to see competition in WiMAX too, but i am afraid, the scope for WiMAX is too limited in emerging markets like Pakistan…

hmm! Aamir i agree with you on that but if properly priced, we can get a decent business model. But i surely agree on the fact that having three operators in a country with total broadband penetration of 9% is too much!

WiMAX rolled out by Orascom is apparently under the Mobilink umbrella and not the Link Dot Net brand name. The launched this month but service is currently only available in Karachi.
